What is Dad’s Camp?
Dad’s Camp is an informal group focused on helping boys become men and teaching them about the outdoors. In 2004 a Dad (Dan Lafever) could not get his son to summer camp. So he looked his son in the eye and said: “Son if we can’t find you a camp, we will make you a camp”. He took four of his son’s friends to a family farm for a long weekend. His son, Jacob, later told him that it was his favorite weekend ever and “Dad’s Camp” was born.
Now over a dozen years later we have expanded our efforts. We use the book, “Raising a Modern Day Knight” as a template for helping boys mature. We conduct a Manhood Ceremony that is a mountain-top experience. We have added a shooting sports component. We take boys from age 8 to 18. This is a faith-based group and the kids lead their own devotionals, cook, and help plan and execute activities.
