Lost in the Woods
Are you ready to become a survivor? On this trip we’ll learn the importance and value of carrying “THE ESSENTIALS” in your day pack. The scenario – we’re out day hiking and something goes wrong. Now we are forced to spend the night in the woods with only the contents of our day packs to SURVIVE.
This will be an intermediate trip (not for beginners) and we’ll work together to make a shelter, find water, build a fire and improvise with basic tools you will have in your day pack. A list of essentials will be provided by the leaders and it will compare very closely with the classic and modern lists that outdoor experts and survivalists use. Tents and sleeping bags are out so you’ll be improvising to make a shelter and stay warm during the night. You’ll also be working as a team. Not only will it be fun but rewarding as a memorable learning experience. We are asking that everyone who applies should have spent a minimum of 3 nights in previous backcountry situations.
This will be a reprise of a similar CIWC event from 2015. The participants in that event were all newer members in the club at the time with less than 2 years of club experience. Six of that group have gone on to become trip leaders and 3 became members of the board. So, they were successful and what a confidence builder!
The exact destination will be withheld until the end but you’ll be guided to meet at a rendezvous point outside of the wilderness. The event will last just a bit over 24 hours from Saturday morning to Sunday morning. The cost (estimated at $30) will cover “one last meal” (at lunch) and some surprises. You’ll be expected to submit a medical form and sign a waiver and release.
