Join Bill Armstrong, trip leader, and others as we camp in Cataloochee Campground, one of the Smoky Mountain National Park campgrounds, for 6 nights and spend our days hiking many of the over 900 miles of trails in this park. The plan is to leave Indy on Monday morning in the club van, arrive in the park in time to set up tents and do a short hike before diner. The following 5 days will allow time for long one-way hikes using the van to drop off and pick up hikers or to do loop trails. Each night we will return to the campground. On Sunday we will take a short morning hike before leaving to return to Indy sometime in that evening.
The trails in the Smokys are well marked and easy to follow but can be very strenuous in the mountain areas. We should be able to see waterfalls, mountain streams, old growth trees, old settler’s homes, numerous wildflowers, bears, and fantastic scenery from the mountain clearings.
The specific trails will be picked out by the trip leader in the spring of 2017. Cost for the trip is $230 per person. This will include van transportation to and from the park as well as daily drop offs and pickups, 6 breakfasts, 6 dinners and campsite fees. This trip is not for beginning hikers as the hikes will be several hours long and can be strenuous as noted above. You will be responsible for providing sleeping bags, tent and your own snacks and lunches while on the trails. Meals while traveling to and from the park on Monday and Sunday will be at your expense.
Don’t miss this walk in the park!
