SUMMARY:IYAK -- Paddlers Paradise Weekend at Summit Lake State Park
DESCRIPTION:Daytime & Evening Paddles \nSummit Lake State Park \nTrip Difficulty: Easy (Beginner to Advanced Skills) \nTrip Leader: Laurie Shoemaker (463)[masked] (Text Only) \nDNR and Summit lake has asked IYAK for help this year with their annual Paddlers Paradise. For the third year running Laurie Shoemaker and Eddie Scales will be running the events and will be IYAK’s representatives. We hope to see lots of you out on the lake and would love to see some of you help out at the events listed below. \nSaturday 9:30 to 11:30am – Learn to paddle: This event will be held by the boat rental and IYAK will supervise those (young or young at heart) who would like to try out our sport in the shallows. We may just paddle around or if the numbers are right we can even lead some kayak games. Open to all (under 18 must have guardian present). \n8:00 to 9:00pm- Sunset Paddle. This event will start by the boat rentals and is scheduled to be a short\, hour long paddle to share the sunset. If there are clear skies and lots of starlight we IYAKer’s may wish to continue after the end of the DNR paddle. Just remember to have your white light with you! \nSunday 6:30 to 7:30am – Sunrise Paddle. Meeting at the boat rentals\, this is our last DNR event and will be scheduled to last one hour. The hope is to duck into some inlets and find some nocturnal animals who haven’t gone to their beds! Join us and we may extend the paddle well into the day! \nIYAK will go paddling at other times as well. That will be determined later. SUMMARY:IYAK -- Full Moon Paddle at Eagle Creek
DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Easy (Beginner to Advanced skill levels) \nTime for another full moon paddle. This time we will be going to Eagle Creek. We will meet at the boat ramp on Dandy Trail near Rick’s Cafe Boatyard. It costs $5 to use the marina. If you are renting a boat there is free parking between the marina and Rick’s Cafe Boatyard. We will meet at 7pm and try to be on the water at 7:30pm. The “Sturgeon” moon is scheduled to rise about an hour after sunset. We will paddle around until the group wants to return. Since we will have plenty of time we should be able to paddle the entire length the reservoir and maybe up into the creek that feeds it. SUMMARY:IYAK -- White River - Paragon to Gosport
DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Easy. This will be suitable for beginners and up. Expect a lot of debris (strainers) in the river. Good boat handling skills may be necessary. Please consider this when you RSVP. \nThe trip will be 10 miles long and will probably last about 4 hours. This section of White River runs through some secluded areas. Expect to see a lot of wildlife. We will put in at the Paragon access point which is located on Paragon Road about 2 miles south of the town of Paragon. The Google Maps link for the drive to the put-in point from Indianapolis is: MAP LINK (https://goo.gl/maps/LcDLzZbtAMr). We will take out at the new Gosport access point. We will need to shuttle our vehicles. The shuttle procedure will be determined when we see how many people will be attending this event. If we leave the boats at the put-in point at 10:30am we should be able to drop off the vehicles at the take-out point and be back and on the water around 11:30am. \nBe sure to bring a lunch. We’ll stop along the river to eat. At the end of the day we’ll stop at a restaurant for dinner. \nCarpool/Caravan Site: For those wanting to carpool/ caravan to the put-in site we will meet at Focus Therapeutic Massage located at 8711 Southeastern Avenue\, Indianapolis\, 46239. DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Easy/Moderate. Depending on recent rainfall\, the river may be moving fast and good boat handling skills may be needed from time to time. Logjams and strainers may be expected. \nThis time we will paddle from Three Rivers SRA (Martinsville) to Paragon PAS. The put in site is just a few miles Northwest of Martinsville. DESCRIPTION:So what if it’s gonna be the hottest day of the year? I don’t know about you but I am always cooler when I’m on a river! JOIN ME on a (favorite) scenic 10 mile paddle of White River through southern Morgan County! With SO MANY sandbars there will be SO MANY places to pull off on for a relaxing dip in the river!\nAs of 7/16/19 the river has a steady flow so it will be more of a relaxed paddle or\, more like a float\, but skills will be needed on some sections. But do note that “newbies” have nothing to worry about….as long as you are wearing a (required) PFD!\nPACK A LUNCH – for with\, so many sandbars we will stop along the way for some grub.\nOur trip will end immediately after the ONLY overpass of Henderson Ford Road at the PAS. DESCRIPTION:Moonlight Paddle \nSummit Lake State Park \nTrip Difficulty: Easy (Beginner to Advanced Skills) \nWe’re heading back to an IYAK favorite\, Summit Lake State Park\, an hour east of Indy. \nThe moon will be nearly full. With a clear sky\, it will be bright for another great moonlight paddle. Sunset is at 9:13pm\, while the moonrise is at 6:35pm. This means we should have adequate light for paddling\, barring any cloud cover. Make sure you bring a flashlight or headlamp and feel free to add additional lighting to your boat. We’ll paddle around the lake for a few hours then head in. \nThere is always plenty of wildlife to see\, including beavers\, turtles and birds. \nWe will meet at the boat ramp near the boat rental concession area (turn left when you enter the park) at 7:30pm and we will be on the water at 8:00-8:15pm. We usually have a large turnout and possibly split into smaller groups\, focusing on beginners\, fitness\, or those just out for a steady paddling pace. \nWe will be meeting at the Dandy Trail boat ramp\, located about a block north of Rick’s Cafe Boatyard\, every other Tuesday evening at 6:00pm\, launch at 6:30pm and plan to be off the water by 8:30pm. We usually go out to dinner as a group afterward. \nThe boat ramp entrance fee is $5\, cash only. You can optionally purchase yearly passes. \nIf you don’t need to drop off a boat at the ramp there is a free parking lot between Rick’s and the boat ramp. DESCRIPTION:Difficulty Level: Easy\, suitable for beginners and up. \nVersailles State Park will be having a fireworks show on July 6. This will be a great opportunity to view the fireworks from Versailles Lake. We will launch from the boat ramp at 8:00 pm and paddle around the lake until the fireworks start at 10:00 pm. We’ll then watch the fireworks show from the lake. We’ve done this before and it is quite the experience to watch the fireworks in the sky and the reflections in the water. DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Easy \nEverybody loves fireworks so we’re having a special night of Independence Day celebrations! Normally we’d have our Thursday evening paddle on Geist but we’re going to make this change. Arrive around 7:45pm and we’ll try to be on the water by 8pm. We will paddle past Olio Road and get as close to the Fall Creek Road bridge as we can safely to watch the fireworks show. We’ll then paddle back to the launch site. Nothing beats watching fireworks from the water since the reflections add another dimension to the effect \nPower boat traffic is expected to be EXTREMELY heavy so we will exercise extra caution. Everybody must have at least one bright white light and a whistle with them. We will stick close to shore at all times to stay out of the path of the other watercraft. \nPlease note: IYAK guidelines require all participants to wear a PFD while on the water. While it is best to ALWAYS wear your life vest\, at night it is much more important as it is easy to get disoriented in the darkness. Bring some sort of light. DESCRIPTION:White River from 116th St. to Broad Ripple Park \nTrip Difficulty: Easy \nJoin us on this fun and leisurely Indy area paddle. \nWe will launch at the public access site on Wapihani just off of 116th Street and Eller Road\, then paddle to the take out at Broad Ripple Park. This is about 10 miles in length and will take less than 5 hours if we paddle leisurely and take a snack break. \nWe will organize a group shuttle for our vehicles. Plan to arrive at the launch site at 12:00pm\, unload your boat and gear and prepare to shuttle our vehicles to Broad Ripple Park\, departing at 12:20pm. Shuttle drivers will return to the launch site and we will launch at 1:00pm. \nBring a lunch and we’ll stop along the river to eat.
