SUMMARY:IYAK -- West Fork White River - Three Rivers SRA to Paragon
DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Easy/Moderate. Depending on recent rainfall\, the river may be moving fast and good boat handling skills may be needed from time to time. Logjams and strainers may be expected. \nThis time we will paddle from Three Rivers SRA (Martinsville) to Paragon PAS. The put in site is just a few miles Northwest of Martinsville. Here is the Google Maps link for the route from Indy to the put-in site: [MAP LINK] (https://goo.gl/maps/Vow29T5KQYz) This paddling route will be about 15 miles in length and last approximately five+ hours. \nWe’ll meet at the put-in site and then shuttle vehicles to the take-out site. We should be on the water by 11:30am. It is a long carry (about 400 yards) from the parking to the river at the put-in site so please take that into consideration. \nBring something to eat and we will stop along the river for lunch. After the paddle we will stop at a restaurant on the way home for dinner. \nSuggested items to bring: Wide brimmed hat\, sun block\, hand sanitizer\, sunglasses\, large sponge\, bilge pump or container to bail out water\, water\, snacks\, weather radio\, towel\, change of clothes\, water shoes\, paddling gloves\, rain gear\, bug spray\, safety whistle\, drybags\, sprayskirt\, Ziplock bags\, camera\, binoculars\, rope\, headlamp or flashlight\, a sense of adventure\, and a good dose of humor. For clothing try to use something other than cotton\, especially if the weather is cool. Polypropylene or polyester are good choices since neither holds water and they wick moisture away from you. \nCarpool/Caravan: For those wanting to carpool/caravan to the event please meet at Focus Therapeutic Massage located at 8711 Southeastern Avenue\, Indianapolis\, 46239. Please be there early as we will leave promptly at 9:00am. \nIf you need to rent a kayak please call Freedom Kayak Adventures at[masked]. The cost is $50 for a single seat kayak. \nIf you have any other questions call Paul at[masked]. \nWhen you RSVP please answer ALL of the questions.\n—————————————————————————- \nWAIVER AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY FOR KAYAKING\, CANOEING AND ALL OTHER ACTIVITIES\nBy RSVPing to\, and attending this event you acknowledge you have read and agree to IYAK’s Waiver of Liability: https://www.meetup.com/IYAK-Indiana-Kayakers/pages/25179426/Liability_Waiver/

SUMMARY:IYAK -- ~ Cool Off on White River! ~
DESCRIPTION:So what if it’s gonna be the hottest day of the year? I don’t know about you but I am always cooler when I’m on a river! JOIN ME on a (favorite) scenic 10 mile paddle of White River through southern Morgan County! With SO MANY sandbars there will be SO MANY places to pull off on for a relaxing dip in the river!\nAs of 7/16/19 the river has a steady flow so it will be more of a relaxed paddle or\, more like a float\, but skills will be needed on some sections. But do note that “newbies” have nothing to worry about….as long as you are wearing a (required) PFD!\nPACK A LUNCH – for with\, so many sandbars we will stop along the way for some grub.\nOur trip will end immediately after the ONLY overpass of Henderson Ford Road at the PAS. (Public Access Site)\nMAP: https://goo.gl/maps/Tyw9iezavnksv6mj9 \nDO NOTE! The launch site is 300 yards from the parking area so plan accordingly. I have a kayak dolly to use. If Laurie can make it she has one as well.\nHOWEVER\, I am waiting on a callback from the parks department to see if someone can meet us there to unlock the gate long enough to let us unload just a few feet from the river!\n—————————————————————————————————–\nRemember\, IYAK requires everybody to wear a PFD while they are on the water. Safety first! \nEvent hosts reserve the right to cancel due to inclement weather. Any cancellation or adjustment to the schedule will be posted in this event’s message thread. \n——————————————————————————————————\nWAIVER AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY FOR KAYAKING\, CANOEING AND ALL OTHER ACTIVITIES\nBy RSVPing to\, and attending this event you acknowledge you have read and agree to IYAK’s Waiver of Liability: https://www.meetup.com/IYAK-Indiana-Kayakers/pages/25179426/Liability_Waiver/

SUMMARY:IYAK -- Moonlight Paddle: Summit Lake State Park
DESCRIPTION:Moonlight Paddle \nSummit Lake State Park \nTrip Difficulty: Easy (Beginner to Advanced Skills) \nWe’re heading back to an IYAK favorite\, Summit Lake State Park\, an hour east of Indy. \nThe moon will be nearly full. With a clear sky\, it will be bright for another great moonlight paddle. Sunset is at 9:13pm\, while the moonrise is at 6:35pm. This means we should have adequate light for paddling\, barring any cloud cover. Make sure you bring a flashlight or headlamp and feel free to add additional lighting to your boat. We’ll paddle around the lake for a few hours then head in. \nThere is always plenty of wildlife to see\, including beavers\, turtles and birds. \nWe will meet at the boat ramp near the boat rental concession area (turn left when you enter the park) at 7:30pm and we will be on the water at 8:00-8:15pm. We’ll paddle past sunset\, enjoy the moonlight\, then head in when the group decides. \nInfo for Summit Lake State Park can be found at http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2967.htm). Visit our IYAK File Section (http://www.meetup.com/IYAK-Indiana-Kayakers/files/) to download a park brochure. There is a $7 park admission fee (or annual state pass). They have a great camping facility\, if anyone wants to explore the option to make it an overnight trip. \nRentals: For Kayak or SUP rental reservations with Freedom Kayak Adventures\, call[masked]. SUPs and single seat kayaks are $50 and tandem boats are $60 for this event. The price includes boat\, PFD\, paddle and delivery to the launch site. \nSuggested items to bring: Wide brimmed hat\, sun block\, hand sanitizer\, sunglasses\, large sponge\, bilge pump or container to bail out water\, water\, snacks\, towel\, change of clothes\, water shoes\, paddling gloves\, rain gear\, bug spray\, safety whistle\, camera\, flashlight/headlamp\, a sense of adventure\, and a good dose of humor. SUMMARY:IYAK — Blast on the Bridge Fireworks Show
DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Easy \nEverybody loves fireworks so we’re having a special night of Independence Day celebrations! Normally we’d have our Thursday evening paddle on Geist but we’re going to make this change. Arrive around 7:45pm and we’ll try to be on the water by 8pm. We will paddle past Olio Road and get as close to the Fall Creek Road bridge as we can safely to watch the fireworks show. We’ll then paddle back to the launch site. Nothing beats watching fireworks from the water since the reflections add another dimension to the effect \nPower boat traffic is expected to be EXTREMELY heavy so we will exercise extra caution. Everybody must have at least one bright white light and a whistle with them. We will stick close to shore at all times to stay out of the path of the other watercraft. \nPlease note: IYAK guidelines require all participants to wear a PFD while on the water. While it is best to ALWAYS wear your life vest\, at night it is much more important as it is easy to get disoriented in the darkness. Bring some sort of light. Preferably a glowstick to attach to your PFD and a headlamp or flashlight. \nSuggested items to bring: Hand sanitizer\, large sponge\, bilge pump or container to bail out water\, water\, snacks\, towel\, change of clothes\, water shoes\, paddling gloves\, bug spray\, safety whistle\, drybags\, Ziplock bags\, camera\, rope\, headlamp or flashlight\, a sense of adventure\, and a good dose of humor.\nFor clothing try to use something other than cotton\, especially if the weather is cool. Polypropylene or polyester are good choices since neither holds water and they wick moisture away from you. \nHere is the Google Maps link for Geist Park: [LINK] (https://www.google.com/maps/place/10979+Florida+Rd\,+Fortville\,+IN+46040/@39.9485032\,-85.8935166\,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x8814caff918630eb:0x993589194ccc2118!8m2!3d39.9485032!4d-85.8913279?hl=en-US) \nIf you need to rent a kayak contact Freedom Kayak Adventures at[masked]. SUMMARY:IYAK -- ~ ~ Whitewater Anyone? ~ ~
DESCRIPTION:Late notice I know but this weekend actually looks like a NO RAIN WEEKEND! I’ll accept the 20% chance of isolated\, late afternoon showers! Temps will be in the upper 80’s too! Perfect time to be on the river! \nThe fastest flowing river in Indiana\, the WHITEWATER RIVER is considered a Class 1 stream and great for paddlers of all skill levels! One of my favorite rivers to paddle. Morgan Adventures will be our host. I personally like having a shuttle to carry me to & from the outfitters knowing my car is parked in a safe location.\nThis will be a 12 mile paddle lasting 5 – 7 hours. So bring a lunch & plenty of water as it’s looking to be a hot\, sunny day. SUMMARY:IYAK -- White River - Broad Ripple to Downtown
DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Easy. This is great for beginners\, guests wanting to give IYAK a try\, and those in the mood for a more ‘urban’ paddling experience. Urban as it is however – you’ll be surprised by the natural beauty of this stretch of the mighty White! \nIt’s a great trip – relatively short at about 2-3 hours with few obstacles and little fast water – but the scenery and landmarks are great. \nWe’ll put in at the north end of Cornell Street in Broad Ripple (along the Monon Trail – just a few blocks north of the Rusted Moon). There is a nice ramp there with ample parking. We’ll take out at the Lake Indy boat ramp in Riverside Park – near 26th Street. \nAlong the way\, we’ll pass under several bridges at College\, Meridian\, Kessler Blvd \, Michigan Road\, 38th Street\, I-65\, and 29th Street. We’ll also pass Holiday Park\, Butler University\, Newfields (Art Museum)\, and many other familiar Indy Landmarks. \nWe’re going to leave our vehicles at the top in Broad Ripple rather than Riverside park for security reasons. At the end of the trip – you can stay with your boat – and the drivers will grab an Uber back up to Broad Ripple to get cars and come down to collect the boats at Riverside Park – so bring a couple of bucks to split the Uber. \nSince we’re doing our vehicle shuttling at the end of the trip – we’ll cast off from Broad Ripple at 1:00 sharp on Sunday – so be there early enough to get your gear ready to set sail. \nFor anybody interested we will head to the White River Yacht Club afterward for a sandwich and perhaps an adult beverage. \nSuggested items to bring: Wide brimmed hat\, sun block\, hand sanitizer\, sunglasses\, large sponge\, bilge pump or container to bail out water\, water\, snacks\, weather radio\, towel\, change of clothes\, water shoes\, paddling gloves\, rain gear\, bug spray\, safety whistle\, drybags\, Ziplock bags\, camera\, binoculars\, rope\, headlamp or flashlight\, a sense of adventure\, and a good dose of humor. \n*Remember\, the new IYAK policy is all participants MUST wear a PFD while on the water. \nTrip Leader: Jay and Julie Beattey (317)[masked]. \nThis trip may be changed or cancelled due to weather or water conditions. \nWhen you RSVP please answer ALL of the questions. \n***********************************************************************WAIVER AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY FOR KAYAKING\, CANOEING AND ALL OTHER ACTIVITIESBy RSVPing to\, and attending this event you acknowledge you have read and agree to IYAK’s Waiver of Liability: https://www.meetup.com/IYAK-Indiana-Kayakers/pages/25179426/Liability_Waiver/

SUMMARY:IYAK -- Moonlight Paddle at Brush Creek Reservoir
DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Easy (Beginner to Advanced Skills) \nWe’re heading back to a small\, but scenic lake under the light of the Flower moon. Brush Creek Reservoir is located about 1:15 southeast of Indy and 30 minutes south of Greensburg. \nHere is the map link: https://goo.gl/maps/gtxYb3NHkdw\nWe will meet at the Boat Ramp at 6:00pm and plan to be on the water by 6:30pm. From there we will paddle around the lake for 3+ hours. We’ve always seen several eagles here in the past. It’s a nice lake with very little boat traffic. The military uses some of the adjacent land for training so we might see some of that. If not we may be able to check out the training village. Sunset is at 8:55pm and moonrise is nearly the same time. That means we should have good light the entire time we’re on the water if there aren’t any clouds. \nCarpool/Caravan Info: For those who want to carpool or caravan we will meet at Focus Therapeutic Massage\, 8711 Southeastern Ave. Be ready to depart @ 3:15pm. We will stop for a quick bite on the way down. \nRENTALS: For Kayak rental reservations with Freedom Kayak Adventures\, call[masked]. Prices to rent for this trip are $50 for singles\, $60 for tandems. \nSuggested items to bring: Wide brimmed hat\, sun block\, hand sanitizer\, sunglasses\, large sponge\, bilge pump or container to bail out water\, water\, snacks\, towel\, change of clothes\, water shoes\, paddling gloves\, rain gear\, bug spray\, safety whistle\, camera\, flashlight/headlamp\, a sense of adventure\, and a good dose of humor. For clothing try to use something other than cotton\, especially if the weather is cool. Polypropylene or polyester are good choices since neither holds water and they wick moisture away from you. \nEvent hosts reserve the right to cancel due to inclement weather. Any cancellation or adjustment to the schedule will be posted in this event’s message thread. \nSince this will be a nighttime event and it’s easy to get disoriented on the dark everyone will be required to wear a PFD (personal flotation device.) \nPlease answer ALL of the questions when you RSVP. \nFor more information call or text Paul Hilton at[masked]. \n————————————————————— \nWAIVER AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY FOR KAYAKING\, CANOEING AND ALL OTHER ACTIVITIES\nBy RSVPing to\, and attending this event you acknowledge you have read and agree to IYAK’s Waiver of Liability: https://www.meetup.com/IYAK-Indiana-Kayakers/pages/25179426/Liability_Waiver/

SUMMARY:IYAK -- Deer Creek - Camden to Delphi
DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Moderate. Can be some strainers and other hazards on the creek. If the water is flowing swiftly good boat handling skills may be required so this is not recommended for anybody with zero experience. On our first trip down this creek nearly half of the paddlers ended up in the water at one time or another. \nHopefully the air will be warm and the water running. What a great combination for a fun paddle down Deer Creek. Located about 20 miles northeast of Lafayette\, this is a very scenic and interesting stream. The creek has plenty of curves and ripples to make it a bit more challenging than some\, with some boulders and trees thrown in to make it even more interesting.\nSince it is a stream we will have to arrange to have vehicles at the takeout point to take us back to the starting point. Try to get there on early so we can unload our boats & gear and then shuttle as many vehicles to the take out as possible. We should be able to be on the water by noon\, hopefully sooner. Bring some food and we’ll have lunch along the river. This trip is about 11-12 miles long and should last 4-5 hours. We will put-in at the SR 75 bridge just south of Camden and take-out at the city park in Delphi. The Googlemaps url for the route to the put-in site is: http://goo.gl/maps/QS3fY \nPost-paddling activities: For anybody interested we will stop at a restaurant for dinner on the way back. \nSuggested items to bring: Wide brimmed hat\, sun block\, hand sanitizer\, sunglasses\, large sponge\, bilge pump or container to bail out water\, water\, snacks\, weather radio\, towel\, change of clothes\, water shoes\, paddling gloves\, rain gear\, bug spray\, safety whistle\, drybags\, Ziplock bags\, camera\, binoculars\, rope\, headlamp or flashlight\, a sense of adventure\, and a good dose of humor.\nFor clothing try to use something other than cotton\, especially if the weather is cool. We will be leaving there around 8:30am. SUMMARY:IYAK -- Big Walnut Creek
DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Moderate. This is a fairly winding stream with riffles\, boulders\, and often time strainers and complete blockages. This trip is not recommended for newbies. Good boat handling skills are required and you may need to be able to crawl over or around log jams. The water may be moving fast so there will be little room for error. \nHopefully the air will be warm and the water should be running. What a great combination for a fun paddle down Big Walnut Creek. Located about 10 miles northwest of Danville\, this is a very scenic and interesting stream. It has lots of limestone cliffs along its path and we will paddle under a couple of covered bridges. The creek has plenty of curves and ripples to make it a bit more challenging than some\, with some boulders and trees thrown in to make it even more interesting. \nSince it is a stream we will have to arrange to have vehicles at the takeout point to take us back to the starting point. Some of us will get there early so we can drop off some vehicles at the take-out site. Bring some food and we’ll have lunch along the river. This trip is about 12 miles long and should last around 5 hours. We will put-in at the McCloud Nature Park and take-out at the US 36 bridge PAS. (Upstream river right) \nThis stream needs a good rain prior to paddling on it so we may have to go to an alternate location if the water levels are too low or too high. Please give your cell phone numbers when you RSVP and watch your emails. Polypropylene or polyester are good choices since neither holds water and they wick moisture away from you. \nIYAK policy is that all participants MUST wear a PFD while on the water. \nCarpool/Caravan Site: Meet at Focus Therapeutic Massage\, 8711 Southeastern Ave.\, Indianapolis\, 46239 by 9:15am. We will leave at 9:30am. \nIf anybody needs to rent a kayak contact Freedom Kayak Adventures at[masked]. The rent for this trip is $50 for a single seat boat and $60 for a tandem boat. \nThe Googlemaps link for the route to McCloud Nature Park is: https://goo.gl/maps/QoeettLnsxAF4RsU9 \nTrip Leader: Paul Hilton[masked]. \nWAIVER OF LIABILITY\nBy RSVPing to this event you and your guests agree to the term of the IYAK – Indiana Kayakers Liability Waiver located at: https://www.meetup.com/IYAK-Indiana-Kayakers/pages/25179426/Liability_Waiver/
