SUMMARY:IYAK -- White River - Broad Ripple to Downtown
DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Easy. This is great for beginners\, guests wanting to give IYAK a try\, and those in the mood for a more ‘urban’ paddling experience. Urban as it is however – you’ll be surprised by the natural beauty of this stretch of the mighty White! \nIt’s a great trip – relatively short at about 2-3 hours with few obstacles and little fast water – but the scenery and landmarks are great. \nWe’ll put in at the north end of Cornell Street in Broad Ripple (along the Monon Trail – just a few blocks north of the Rusted Moon). There is a nice ramp there with ample parking. We’ll take out at the Lake Indy boat ramp in Riverside Park – near 26th Street. \nAlong the way\, we’ll pass under several bridges at College\, Meridian\, Kessler Blvd \, Michigan Road\, 38th Street\, I-65\, and 29th Street. We’ll also pass Holiday Park\, Butler University\, Newfields (Art Museum)\, and many other familiar Indy Landmarks. \nWe’re going to leave our vehicles at the top in Broad Ripple rather than Riverside park for security reasons. At the end of the trip – you can stay with your boat – and the drivers will grab an Uber back up to Broad Ripple to get cars and come down to collect the boats at Riverside Park – so bring a couple of bucks to split the Uber. \nSince we’re doing our vehicle shuttling at the end of the trip – we’ll cast off from Broad Ripple at 1:00 sharp on Sunday – so be there early enough to get your gear ready to set sail. \nFor anybody interested we will head to the White River Yacht Club afterward for a sandwich and perhaps an adult beverage. \nSuggested items to bring: Wide brimmed hat\, sun block\, hand sanitizer\, sunglasses\, large sponge\, bilge pump or container to bail out water\, water\, snacks\, weather radio\, towel\, change of clothes\, water shoes\, paddling gloves\, rain gear\, bug spray\, safety whistle\, drybags\, Ziplock bags\, camera\, binoculars\, rope\, headlamp or flashlight\, a sense of adventure\, and a good dose of humor. \n*Remember\, the new IYAK policy is all participants MUST wear a PFD while on the water. \nTrip Leader: Jay and Julie Beattey (317)[masked]. \nThis trip may be changed or cancelled due to weather or water conditions. \nWhen you RSVP please answer ALL of the questions. \n***********************************************************************WAIVER AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY FOR KAYAKING\, CANOEING AND ALL OTHER ACTIVITIESBy RSVPing to\, and attending this event you acknowledge you have read and agree to IYAK’s Waiver of Liability: https://www.meetup.com/IYAK-Indiana-Kayakers/pages/25179426/Liability_Waiver/

SUMMARY:IYAK -- Moonlight Paddle at Brush Creek Reservoir
DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Easy (Beginner to Advanced Skills) \nWe’re heading back to a small\, but scenic lake under the light of the Flower moon. Brush Creek Reservoir is located about 1:15 southeast of Indy and 30 minutes south of Greensburg. \nHere is the map link: https://goo.gl/maps/gtxYb3NHkdw\nWe will meet at the Boat Ramp at 6:00pm and plan to be on the water by 6:30pm. From there we will paddle around the lake for 3+ hours. We’ve always seen several eagles here in the past. It’s a nice lake with very little boat traffic. The military uses some of the adjacent land for training so we might see some of that. If not we may be able to check out the training village. Sunset is at 8:55pm and moonrise is nearly the same time. That means we should have good light the entire time we’re on the water if there aren’t any clouds. \nCarpool/Caravan Info: For those who want to carpool or caravan we will meet at Focus Therapeutic Massage\, 8711 Southeastern Ave. Be ready to depart @ 3:15pm. We will stop for a quick bite on the way down. \nRENTALS: For Kayak rental reservations with Freedom Kayak Adventures\, call[masked]. Prices to rent for this trip are $50 for singles\, $60 for tandems. \nSuggested items to bring: Wide brimmed hat\, sun block\, hand sanitizer\, sunglasses\, large sponge\, bilge pump or container to bail out water\, water\, snacks\, towel\, change of clothes\, water shoes\, paddling gloves\, rain gear\, bug spray\, safety whistle\, camera\, flashlight/headlamp\, a sense of adventure\, and a good dose of humor. For clothing try to use something other than cotton\, especially if the weather is cool. Polypropylene or polyester are good choices since neither holds water and they wick moisture away from you. \nEvent hosts reserve the right to cancel due to inclement weather. Any cancellation or adjustment to the schedule will be posted in this event’s message thread. \nSince this will be a nighttime event and it’s easy to get disoriented on the dark everyone will be required to wear a PFD (personal flotation device.) \nPlease answer ALL of the questions when you RSVP. \nFor more information call or text Paul Hilton at[masked]. \n————————————————————— \nWAIVER AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY FOR KAYAKING\, CANOEING AND ALL OTHER ACTIVITIES\nBy RSVPing to\, and attending this event you acknowledge you have read and agree to IYAK’s Waiver of Liability: https://www.meetup.com/IYAK-Indiana-Kayakers/pages/25179426/Liability_Waiver/

SUMMARY:IYAK -- Deer Creek - Camden to Delphi
DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Moderate. Can be some strainers and other hazards on the creek. If the water is flowing swiftly good boat handling skills may be required so this is not recommended for anybody with zero experience. On our first trip down this creek nearly half of the paddlers ended up in the water at one time or another. \nHopefully the air will be warm and the water running. What a great combination for a fun paddle down Deer Creek. Located about 20 miles northeast of Lafayette\, this is a very scenic and interesting stream. The creek has plenty of curves and ripples to make it a bit more challenging than some\, with some boulders and trees thrown in to make it even more interesting.\nSince it is a stream we will have to arrange to have vehicles at the takeout point to take us back to the starting point. Try to get there on early so we can unload our boats & gear and then shuttle as many vehicles to the take out as possible. We should be able to be on the water by noon\, hopefully sooner. Bring some food and we’ll have lunch along the river. This trip is about 11-12 miles long and should last 4-5 hours. We will put-in at the SR 75 bridge just south of Camden and take-out at the city park in Delphi. The Googlemaps url for the route to the put-in site is: http://goo.gl/maps/QS3fY \nPost-paddling activities: For anybody interested we will stop at a restaurant for dinner on the way back. \nSuggested items to bring: Wide brimmed hat\, sun block\, hand sanitizer\, sunglasses\, large sponge\, bilge pump or container to bail out water\, water\, snacks\, weather radio\, towel\, change of clothes\, water shoes\, paddling gloves\, rain gear\, bug spray\, safety whistle\, drybags\, Ziplock bags\, camera\, binoculars\, rope\, headlamp or flashlight\, a sense of adventure\, and a good dose of humor.\nFor clothing try to use something other than cotton\, especially if the weather is cool. Cost for rentals will be $55 for single seat kayaks and $65 for a tandem. \nCarpool/Caravan Site: Anybody wanting to meet on the southeast side of Indy meet at Focus Therapeutic Massage\, 8711 Southeastern Avenue\, 46239. We will be leaving there around 8:30am. If anybody else wants to set up another carpool site please post a comment below. \nTrip Leader: Paul Hilton (317)[masked]. \nThis trip may be changed or cancelled due to weather or water conditions. \nWhen you RSVP please answer ALL of the questions. \n***********************************************************************\nWAIVER AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY FOR KAYAKING\, CANOEING AND ALL OTHER ACTIVITIES\nBy RSVPing to\, and attending this event you acknowledge you have read and agree to IYAK’s Waiver of Liability: https://www.meetup.com/IYAK-Indiana-Kayakers/pages/25179426/Liability_Waiver/

SUMMARY:IYAK -- Big Walnut Creek
DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Moderate. This is a fairly winding stream with riffles\, boulders\, and often time strainers and complete blockages. This trip is not recommended for newbies. Good boat handling skills are required and you may need to be able to crawl over or around log jams. The water may be moving fast so there will be little room for error. \nHopefully the air will be warm and the water should be running. What a great combination for a fun paddle down Big Walnut Creek. Located about 10 miles northwest of Danville\, this is a very scenic and interesting stream. It has lots of limestone cliffs along its path and we will paddle under a couple of covered bridges. The creek has plenty of curves and ripples to make it a bit more challenging than some\, with some boulders and trees thrown in to make it even more interesting. \nSince it is a stream we will have to arrange to have vehicles at the takeout point to take us back to the starting point. Some of us will get there early so we can drop off some vehicles at the take-out site. Bring some food and we’ll have lunch along the river. This trip is about 12 miles long and should last around 5 hours. We will put-in at the McCloud Nature Park and take-out at the US 36 bridge PAS. (Upstream river right) \nThis stream needs a good rain prior to paddling on it so we may have to go to an alternate location if the water levels are too low or too high. Please give your cell phone numbers when you RSVP and watch your emails. We will meet at the northern boat ramp (turn right when you enter the park). \nFor park information go to: Summit Lake SP (http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2967.htm). \nFEES: There is a $7 park admission fee (or annual state pass).\nYou will need the DNR Non-Motorized Boat Permit sticker on your boat. SUMMARY:IYAK -- Monroe Lake Moonlight Paddle
DESCRIPTION:Another full moon\, another moonlight paddle. This time we’re heading to Monroe Lake at the Crooked Creek Launch Ramp for the “Pink” moon. We will be paddling in the no-wake zone so we won’t have to be concerned about high speed boat traffic. \nWe will meet at 5:00pm and try to be on the water by 5:30-5:45pm. The sun sets around 8:27pm so we will have three hours of daylight to paddle. Pack a meal and we will stop along the shore for dinner. \nSpecial Safety Considerations: Be sure to have a headlamp or flashlight. The law requires you have to have a white light. A glow stick is nice to have attached to your PFD to make you visible in the darkness. Since it is easy to become disoriented in the darkness everybody is required to wear their PFDs while on the water. For additional safety\, please pick a paddling buddy and stay together. \nHere is the map link to the launch site: https://goo.gl/maps/KGueJre97K52 \nTrip Difficulty: Easy \nCarpool/Caravan Site: We will meet at Focus Therapeutic Massage\, 8711 Southeastern Avenue\, Indianapolis\, 46239 at 2:45pm and will leave at 3:00pm. Rentals: For Kayak reservations with Freedom Kayak Adventures\, call[masked]. Single seat kayaks are $50 and tandem boats are $60 for this event. The price includes boat\, PFD\, paddle and delivery to the launch site. \n* Due to paddling at night\, you MUST wear your PFD and you MUST have some form of light on you or your boat for this trip \n* This event is on IN-DNR property\, so regulations require your boat to have a 2018 Non-Motorized Boat Permit decal. They are available at most state parks or you can purchase one online or at the downtown Indy office for $5. \nEvent hosts reserve the right to cancel due to inclement weather. Any cancellation or adjustment to the schedule will be posted in this event’s message thread. \nWhen you RSVP please answer ALL of the questions. Your answers can not be seen by the public. SUMMARY:IYAK -- Driftwood River - Sugar Creek to Lowell Road
DESCRIPTION:DIFFICULTY RATING: Easy to Moderate. This river is normally not hard to paddle but but if we get much rain this week it can be a bit more challenging. Beginners should take this into consideration before RSVPing. \nWe’ll be heading to the Edinburgh area for this event. This is a nice river trip. We’ll meet at the Sugar Creek Bridge PAS on River Road located north of the bridge that crosses over Sugar Creek at 1:30 AM. (GPS coords: N[masked] W[masked]) Take E. 800 S (Camp Atterbury Rd.) about 1/2 mile east of US 31 to the bridge. We will shuttle vehicles down to the take-out at the Lowell Road PAS just northeast of Columbus. This should allow us to be on the water before 2:30 PM. This is a 11 mile trip and should take about four hours to complete. Here is the Google Maps link for the trip from Indy to the launch: https://goo.gl/maps/VhvAR4R3F8z \nSince we are getting a late start\, eat lunch before we launch. We will stop for dinner on the way home if everybody wants. \nWhat to bring: Sunscreen\, wide-brimmed hat\, sunglasses\, water\, snacks\, large sponge\, towel\, binoculars\, camera (with water proof container)\, change of clothes\, dry bag\, a sense of adventure\, camaraderie and a good dose of humor. For clothing it’s best to use synthetic fibers such as polyester or polypropylene since they don’t hold moisture as cotton does. I also recommend rain gear since that will keep the water off you and protect you from the wind. \nRENTAL BOATS: If you need to rent a kayak call Freedom Kayak Adventures LLC at (317)[masked]. It is $50 for a single seat kayak and $60 for a tandem kayak for this event. \nCarpool/caravan site: We will meet at Paul Hilton’s office\, Focus Therapeutic Massage\, located at 8711 Southeastern Avenue. We will need to shuttle our vehicles. The shuttle procedure will be determined when we see how many people will be attending this event.
