SUMMARY:IYAK -- Monroe Lake Moonlight Paddle
DESCRIPTION:Another full moon\, another moonlight paddle. This time we’re heading to Monroe Lake at the Crooked Creek Launch Ramp for the “Pink” moon. We will be paddling in the no-wake zone so we won’t have to be concerned about high speed boat traffic. \nWe will meet at 5:00pm and try to be on the water by 5:30-5:45pm. The sun sets around 8:27pm so we will have three hours of daylight to paddle. Pack a meal and we will stop along the shore for dinner. \nSpecial Safety Considerations: Be sure to have a headlamp or flashlight. The law requires you have to have a white light. A glow stick is nice to have attached to your PFD to make you visible in the darkness. Since it is easy to become disoriented in the darkness everybody is required to wear their PFDs while on the water. SUMMARY:IYAK -- Driftwood River - Sugar Creek to Lowell Road
DESCRIPTION:DIFFICULTY RATING: Easy to Moderate. This river is normally not hard to paddle but but if we get much rain this week it can be a bit more challenging. Beginners should take this into consideration before RSVPing. \nWe’ll be heading to the Edinburgh area for this event. This is a nice river trip. We’ll meet at the Sugar Creek Bridge PAS on River Road located north of the bridge that crosses over Sugar Creek at 1:30 AM. (GPS coords: N[masked] W[masked]) Take E. 800 S (Camp Atterbury Rd.) about 1/2 mile east of US 31 to the bridge. We will shuttle vehicles down to the take-out at the Lowell Road PAS just northeast of Columbus. This should allow us to be on the water before 2:30 PM. This is a 11 mile trip and should take about four hours to complete. SUMMARY:IYAK -- St. Paddy's Day Paddle: White River - Noblesville to Hazel Dell Landing
DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Easy to moderate. This will be suitable for beginners and up. \nThe trip will be 12 miles long and will probably last about 3-4 hours. We will put in at the Forest Park access point which is located at 399 State Road 19 in Noblesville. The Google Maps link for the drive to the put-in point from Indianapolis is: https://goo.gl/maps/jwSGRiWVAYN2. We will take out at the Hazel Dell Landing access point. We will need to shuttle our vehicles. The shuttle procedure will be determined when we see how many people will be attending this event. If we leave the boats at the put-in point at Noon we should be able to drop off the vehicles at the take-out point and be back and on the water around 1:00pm. \nBe sure to bring a lunch. We will stop along the river to eat. \nDon’t forget to wear your green. Just save the green beer for AFTER the paddle. \nSuggested items to bring: Kayak\, paddle\, PFD\, wide brimmed hat\, sun block\, hand sanitizer\, sunglasses\, large sponge\, bilge pump or container to bail out water\, water\, snacks\, weather radio\, towel\, water shoes\, paddling gloves\, rain gear\, bug spray\, safety whistle\, drybags\, Ziplock bags\, camera\, binoculars\, rope\, headlamp or flashlight\, a sense of adventure\, and a good dose of humor. Please be extra cautious in what you wear. Being a river trip once we launch we cant go back. Please pack a spare set of warm clothes to bring with you (just in case). \nFor clothing try to use something other than cotton\, especially since the water will be cold. Polypropylene or polyester are good choices since neither holds water and they wick moisture away from you. Troy Ave.\, Indianapolis\, 46239\nWhen: Saturday March 9th\, Basic Class 1-3pm\, CPR/AED 3-5pm.\nWho: All members are invited.\nCost: $40 for the basic first aid portion\, and an additional $40 for the CPR?AED class \nSince we are often away from immediate help it was decided at the planning meeting to offer a first aid class to our members. This will be a two stage class. The first half will be a basic first aid class. Afterwards\, if there is enough interest we will have a CPR/AED class as well. You can take just the basic class or both. We will have a Red Cross certified instructor. The cost is $40 for the basic first aid class and an additional $40 for the CPR/AED portion.
