SUMMARY:Pistol 145 (Intro to Defensive Pistol) – One Day (Seelyville\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:Pistol 145 Overview\nPrerequisites: Suggested—Revere’s Riders Pistol 100 or similar. This is not an introductory course and participants are expected to be capable of the following: \n\nhandling their firearm in a safe manner\nkeeping shots within a 6″ square from approximately 10 yards\n\nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 500 rounds/day. \nPistol Requirements: Pistols should be of a modern\, drop safe design. \nOlder single action pistols manufactured before the 1980s and lacking a transfer bar safety are the most common type of pistol that lack drop safe design features\, as do some military surplus imports from Eastern bloc countries and Taurus PT-series pistols not fixed during an international safety recall in 2015. These pistols may discharge if dropped and pose a potential safety hazard to our volunteers and students\, and are not permitted. If you have concerns about the safety features of your pistol you should have it inspected by an armorer or gunsmith before class. \nThe following are a good set of guidelines for an appropriate pistol for this event: \n\nbring the pistol you intend to use for concealed carry; leave the brand new pistol you bought the day before the event at home\na medium-frame pistol is often ideal for concealed carry (e.g.\, Glock 19 or similar); smaller pistols are difficult to shoot accurately and larger pistols are uncomfortable to carry all day long\nmake sure your pistol is in good working order; if in doubt\, have it checked by a qualified gunsmith or armorer. A pistol that malfunctions constantly will get you plenty of practice addressing malfunctions but not much practice with the drills\n\nIf you have any questions concerning the suitability of your pistol for this course\, please contact the Event Director. \nRequired Equipment: Please review our suggestions on appropriate Pistol 145 equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nmagazines or speed loaders: bring at least THREE (more is better\, especially if you are using a pistol with a capacity of less than 10 rounds)\nholster: a strong side holster that does not collapse when your pistol is drawn (no appendix\, ankle\, shoulder or small-of-back holsters). Either IWB (“inside the waistband”) or OWB (“outside the waistband”) are fine\, but the holster you intend to use for concealed carry would be preferred. An OWB holster is often easier to use if you have never drawn from a holster before but will still allow you to participate fully in the drills we will conduct. The crucial aspect is that your holster MUST hold your firearm securely without letting it move around on your hip; this will necessitate a holster that attaches at TWO POINTS to your gun belt; there are a few holsters that attach to your gun belt at one point and still hold your firearm securely\, but they generally attach over an extended length of your belt effectively simulating two points of attachment.\ngun belt: you will have your pistol on your hip for the entire day. It will seem heavier as the day goes on and a good\, sturdy gun belt will minimize that feeling. A standard belt isn’t going to cut it here; spend a couple of dollars on a quality gun belt if you don’t already have one.\nmagazine carrier (you can get by with putting spare magazines in a pocket\, but a magazine carrier is much preferred)\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nOverview: Pistol 145 begins with an overview of the range rules\, safety procedures and quick reminder of the fundamentals from basic pistol. From there\, the course focuses on the mechanics of defensive pistol shooting.  Lecture topics include: “Why do we do this?”\, the physiological and psychological aspects of dynamic critical incidents for both the “good guy” and the “bad guy”\, firearms and ancillary equipment for defensive use among other topics. Range exercises build on each successive evolution ending the day with a simple drill that rehearses the physical and mental issues dealt with during the class. \nAt the end of the course\, you will have learned a simple drill that will help you internalize the basics of defensive pistol craft. \nAdditional Event Information\nMinors (under 18 years old) must be mature enough to follow the instruction and perform the drills as well as have a parent or legal guardian present during the event. \nAdditional Questions?\nJohn is available at the email address below to answer questions both before and after the course.

SUMMARY:RR -- Battle Road Biathlon – One Day (Bedford\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:Battle Road Biathlon℠ Overview\nThe Battle Road Biathlon is an entry-level competitive event\, as opposed to an instructional clinic like most other Revere’s Riders events.  It has proven to be a challenging and fun time for men and women ages 13-60+ that  demands precision shooting under physical and mental pressure. Deceptively simple in design\, the course should put the participant in a physiological and psychological state “similar” to the colonial militia units on April 19\, 1775 as they desperately sought to effectively engage the “Lobsterbacks” before they could return to the safety of Boston. \nPrerequisites: Suggested—Rifle 125 or similar class. \nIf you have not attended Rifle 125\, then you should be able to reliably hit a 10 MOA target from the standing position\, a 7.5 MOA target from seated and 4 MOA target from prone and should be familiar with basic operation of your rifle. If you cannot meet the accuracy suggestion then you may be frustrated at this event and be better served learning the fundamentals of marksmanship at a Rifle 125 clinic. \nYou should be in reasonably-good health with the ability to run/hike 3/4 mile segments (x4) over varied unpaved terrain. \nRifle and Ammunition Required: A safe and reliable rifle chambered in .22 LR and 15 rounds of reliable .22 LR ammunition. Bringing extra ammunition is always a good idea! \nRequired Equipment: The following equipment is required to participate: \n\nsafe and reliable .22 LR rifle with sights of your choosing (optics or irons) sighted in at 35m (no other caliber will be permitted due to the exclusive design of our proprietary reactive targets)\nat least one and preferably three magazines for your rifle\nhearing protection\neye protection\nappropriate footwear with toe protection: either running shoes\, trail running shoes or hiking boots are recommended.  Sandals or flip-flops would not be appropriate or safe.\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nlunch (leaving the range for lunch is not feasible)\nsnacks\n\nOptional Equipment: In addition\, the following equipment is recommended for this event but not required: \n\nsling for your rifle (this will be a shooting aid ONLY; you will NOT be running/walking with your rifle)\nshooting mat\nsunscreen\nbug repellant\nhat with a brim\nfolding chair\n\nProhibited Equipment: The following equipment WILL NOT BE ALLOWED at this event: \n\nrifle chambered for any caliber other than .22 LR\n\nEvent Details\nOn April 19th\, 1775\, colonial militia companies from Massachusetts and surrounding colonies mustered and sent men to defend Lexington\, Concord and Menotomy from regular British troops who were attempting to destroy arms and powder of the “rebels” stored in Concord. In order to close with and engage the Redcoats before they could return to the safety of their base in Boston\, militia units had to move with urgency and purpose on Battle Road\, as well as other routes. When they did get within range of the Redcoats\, they had to use practiced marksmanship skills to hit their targets. This event will involve moving with urgency and purpose and then quickly transitioning to controlled breathing (and holding still!) while shooting with an elevated heart and respiratory rate. As on April 19th\, 1775\, only hits count! Competitors will shoot .22 rimfire rifles from three positions; standing\, seated and prone at reactive targets 35 meters (38.28 yards) away. Targets will be in three different sizes: \n\nStanding 4.485″ (12.27 MOA)\nSeated/Kneeling 3.12″ (8.53 MOA)\nProne 1.755″ (4.5 MOA)\n\nShooters/Runners/Walkers will each have an individually-assigned firing point and target. After each stage\, rifles will be cleared\, made safe and grounded at the firing points; you will NOT be running/walking with your rifle. \nCourse of Fire\nYou will use a total of 15 rounds; 3 magazines of 5 rounds each is recommended\, but you may use 1 magazine and load it 3 times with 5 rounds at a time. There will be 4 running/walking loops of 1.25K (3/4 mile) each\, for a total of 5K. It will be the same loop each time. These loops will be on unimproved trails through hilly woods and fields. There may be some natural obstacles such as logs or ditches\, but there will be no climbing or crawling. You may either run or walk. In between each running/walking loop is a shooting stage. The reactive targets\, which are plain black bullseyes\, will be in three rows of five targets in each row. Five shots will be taken in each of the three positions\, one shot per target. You either hit it\, or miss it (“Hits Count!”). The reactive target disks turn from black to white to indicate a hit. After shooting each stage\, and clearing/safing/grounding his/her rifle\, the competitor does a separate approximately 125 meter penalty loop for each miss before going back out on the 1.25K loop. The event will progress in the following manner: \n\nSquad start (competitors will start in squads of 8 at the same time)\nRun/walk 1.25K loop\nShoot unsupported standing one shot at each of five targets (top row)\nClear\, make safe and ground rifle\nRun/walk penalty loop once for each missed target\nRun/walk 1.25K loop\nShoot unsupported seated/kneeling (shooter choice) one shot at each of five targets (middle row)\nClear\, make safe and ground rifle\nRun/walk penalty loop once for each missed target\nRun/walk 1.25K loop\nShoot unsupported prone one shot at each of five targets (bottom row)\nClear\, make safe and ground rifle\nRun/walk penalty loop once for each missed target\nRun/walk 1.25K loop\nFinish\n\nThere will not be any traditional target scoring; either you hit the target or you miss it (“Hits Count!”). Since the penalty for missing is running/walking extra distance\, the winner will be determined by time only. After the last competitor from squad #1 finishes\, the targets will be reset and squad #2 will get ready.  Then\, while squad#2 is on the course\, the competitors from squad#1 are encouraged to stay for the famous Bedford fellowship and to cheer on the other competitors.  However\, participants who have finished are not required to stay for the entire day and may leave if necessary. Depending upon the number of registrants\, we may have up to 3 squads.  For those who stay until the last squad finishes\, we will have an awards ceremony\, pictures and some final brief words by the event director. Here is a video of a previous competitor shooting the seated stage.  This will give you an idea of what to expect from the shooting portion.  Note that this shooter previously scored at the Master level on the Revere’s Riders full distance (100-400 yards) “KD”qualifier! Download practice targets here. \nAdditional Event Information\nTicket price includes all range fees. \nAdditional Range Information\nThe Bedford Contingent is South Central Indiana’s Premier Shooting Facility. Located just north of Bedford\, Indiana\, “The BC” features a 300-yd rifle range\, a large\, comfortable fully-enclosed building for meetings\, and is available year-round for public and private events. Primitive camping available (please reserve ahead of time\, donation appreciated)\, porta-potties and potable water on-site.

SUMMARY:IYAK -- Paddlers Paradise Weekend at Summit Lake State Park
DESCRIPTION:Daytime & Evening Paddles \nSummit Lake State Park \nTrip Difficulty: Easy (Beginner to Advanced Skills) \nTrip Leader: Laurie Shoemaker (463)[masked] (Text Only) \nDNR and Summit lake has asked IYAK for help this year with their annual Paddlers Paradise. For the third year running Laurie Shoemaker and Eddie Scales will be running the events and will be IYAK’s representatives. We hope to see lots of you out on the lake and would love to see some of you help out at the events listed below. \nSaturday 9:30 to 11:30am – Learn to paddle: This event will be held by the boat rental and IYAK will supervise those (young or young at heart) who would like to try out our sport in the shallows. We may just paddle around or if the numbers are right we can even lead some kayak games. Open to all (under 18 must have guardian present). \n8:00 to 9:00pm- Sunset Paddle. This event will start by the boat rentals and is scheduled to be a short\, hour long paddle to share the sunset. If there are clear skies and lots of starlight we IYAKer’s may wish to continue after the end of the DNR paddle. Just remember to have your white light with you! \nSunday 6:30 to 7:30am – Sunrise Paddle. Meeting at the boat rentals\, this is our last DNR event and will be scheduled to last one hour. The hope is to duck into some inlets and find some nocturnal animals who haven’t gone to their beds! Join us and we may extend the paddle well into the day! \nIYAK will go paddling at other times as well. That will be determined later. Please pay attention to any updates. \nFor park information go to: Summit Lake State Park (http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2967.htm). Visit our IYAK File Section (http://www.meetup.com/IYAK-Indiana-Kayakers/files/) to download a park brochure. There is a $7 park admission fee (or $50 annual state pass). They have a great camping facility\, if anyone wants to explore the option to make it an overnight trip. \nSuggested items to bring: Wide brimmed hat\, sun block\, hand sanitizer\, sunglasses\, large sponge\, bilge pump or container to bail out water\, water\, snacks\, towel\, change of clothes\, water shoes\, paddling gloves\, rain gear\, bug spray\, safety whistle\, camera\, flashlight/headlamp\, a sense of adventure\, and a good dose of humor. Polypropylene or polyester are good choices since neither holds water and they wick moisture away from you. \nIYAK policy is for all paddlers to wear a PFD while on the water. \n* This event is on IN-DNR property\, so regulations require your boat to have a 2019 Non-Motorized Boat Permit decal. They are available at the park entrance or you can purchase one online or at the downtown Indy office for $5. \nEvent hosts reserve the right to cancel due to inclement weather. SUMMARY:RR -- Pistol 100 (Basic Pistol) – One Day (Seelyville\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:Pistol 100 (Basic Pistol) Overview\nPrerequisites: None \nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 300-400 rounds. \nPistol Requirements: You will need a safe pistol with at least five round capacity to fully participate in this course (loaner pistols are generally available; if you need a loaner pistol\, please indicate such when filling out your ticket information). Pistols should be of a modern\, drop safe design. \nRequired Equipment: You should plan to bring the following equipment to the event: \n\nat least two magazines for your pistol\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nWe will not be drawing from the holster in this class and we will run a “cold range.” You will not need a holster to participate in the class activities. \nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nOverview: This course\, based on traditional American service pistol fundamentals teaches “Hits Count!” This course lays a sound foundation for students to shoot groups under time pressure from a practical stance. Pistol 100 includes classroom and range time learning to shoot handguns. Students learn: \n\nRules for safe gun handling & range rules\nPistol parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nTwo Handed Grip & Stance: Isoceles\, benchrest\, and low ready positions (Weaver may also be taught)\nNatural Point of Aim\nShot Group Analysis\nClearing Common Stoppages\nWhittemore’s Stand Pistol Qualifier\nClassic WW2 Pistol Qualification Test (optional)\n\nThe Midnight Ride of Paul Revere\nHear the true story of Paul Revere’s famous ride and learn about the events that immediately precipitated the Revolutionary War. Paul Revere did not ride alone – many individuals played crucial roles in the events of April 19th\, 1775. \nThis history presentation begins with alarm riders warning “the Regulars are out!” You’ll hear about the dramatic stand on Lexington Green and the “shots heard ’round the world” at Concord’s North Bridge. The tale concludes with harrowing life-or-death choices made along the 17 mile “battle road.” \nThis exciting tale will be woven throughout the day’s marksmanship events. \nAdditional Event Information\nYour range fee is included in the ticket price. \nWin a Copy of “Paul Revere’s Ride”\nOur history presentations are based on “Paul Revere’s Ride” by David Hackett Fischer\, a thoroughly researched recounting of the events leading up to the historic skirmishes between Patriots and Red Coats at Concord and Lexington on April 19\, 1775. \n\n“The true story of Paul Revere’s ride is very different from the popular myth of the lone rider of the Revolution…This is a tale of contingency\, with great events hanging in the narrow balance. It is the story of free people\, making hard choices. Most of all\, it is about America’s half-remembered heritage of collective action in the cause of freedom. When Paul Revere and his many friends alarmed the Middlesex countryside\, they were carrying that message for us.” \n\nWe will be giving away a softcover copy of “Paul Revere’s Ride” to one lucky participant at this event.

SUMMARY:RR -- Inaugural Marty Brown Memorial Open (Bedford\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:Marty Brown Memorial Open Overview\nThe Marty Brown Memorial Open™ event honors Marty Brown\, an instructor with Revere’s Riders who lost a 40-month battle with ovarian cancer in 2017.  You can read more about Marty as well as Ovar’coming Together on the Marty Brown Memorial™ page of our website. \n50% of ticket revenue (after deduction of range fees and lunch costs) will be donated to Ovar’coming Together to assist in their programs to support women diagnosed with ovarian cancer as well as funding ovarian cancer research. If you would like to make an additional donation\, please visit the Donation page on the Ovar’coming Together website. \nSwag Bags\, Give Aways\, Prizes\, Auctions\nRevere’s Riders has asked companies to donate appropriate items to help make this event a success. The response we have received to our request has exceeded our wildest imagination; we have received nearly \n$10\,000\nin product donations for this event from more than 40 companies. \nWe will be incorporating these donations into the Marty Brown Memorial Open in the following ways: \n\nSwag Bags—every paid participant will receive a “swag bag” filled with\n\na custom teal #MBMO2019 event t-shirt\na custom Marty Brown Memorial patch\nadditional items such as hats\, koozies\, patches\, stickers\, pens\, etc. from other donors and sponsors\ncomplete details on Swag Bag contents\n\n\nGive Aways—every paid participant will receive a random gift such as the following:\n\nMossberg International Silver Reserver II 20g Over/Under youth model shotgun\nvarious Vortex optics\n6 month range pass to Indy Arms Company\ncomplete details on Give Aways\n\n\nSkills Contests—paid participants will be eligible to compete in a skills contest each day with prizes for the top 4 scores (extra entry fee required; $5/shot\, $20/5 shots):\n\nIWI Jericho pistol\nTaurus G2 pistol\nTimber Creek AR-15 upper build kit\nPalmetto State Armory barreled AR-15 upper in .300 AAC Blackout\ncomplete details on Skills Contests\n\n\nSilent Auction—we will auctioning off more than a dozen items in a silent auction open to everyone which includes:\n\nsigned Ted Nugent memorabilia\nseveral Vortex riflescopes\ncustom jewelry\nconcealed carry purse\ncomplete details on Silent Auction\n\n\n\nDetails on all these items can be found on the 2019 Marty Brown Memorial Open Swag Bags\, Give Aways\, Prizes\, Auctions page. \nMAKE SURE TO BRING CASH FOR SKILLS CONTEST ENTRY FEES! \nEvent Overview\nThis event will consist of both pistol and rifle marksmanship including: the fundamentals of firearm safety\, how to effectively hit your target and drills you can practice on your own. \nThe Marty Brown Memorial Open will be based upon our existing Whittemore Weekend™ event; this is a unique offering combining pistol and rifle training in one weekend. This course is appropriate for a wide breadth of student skill levels and lays a sound foundation for students to shoot groups under time pressure from a variety of practical stances and field positions. \nPlease review the Pistol 100 and Rifle 125 course descriptions for an overview of topics that will be covered over the weekend. \nPrerequisites: None \nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 250 rounds each of pistol and rifle ammunition (500 total). \nPistol Requirements: You will need a safe pistol with at least five round capacity to fully participate in this course. Pistols should be of a modern\, drop safe design. \nRifle Requirements: You will need a safe rifle chambered in your preferred caliber. Magazine-fed semi-automatic rifles generally work best for our classes\, but any other type of rifle (tube-fed semi-automatic\, lever-action\, bolt-action\, etc.) can be used as well. Bring whatever rifle you have and we will work with you. \nRequired Equipment: You should plan to bring the following equipment to the event: \n\nat least two magazines for your rifle\nat least two magazines for your pistol\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nIt is helpful that all ammunition be of the same type (i.e. same weight\, manufacturer\, etc) for this event. Our volunteers have identified several accessories that may be helpful at this type of event: \n\npistol accessories\nrifle accessories\n\nRifle shooting will primarily be at 25 yards. Pistol shooting will primarily be at 7 yards. Rimfire pistols and/or rifles will be perfectly suitable for this event. \nWe will not be drawing from the holster in this class and we will run a “cold range.” You will not need a holster to participate in the class activities. \nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\nsling for your rifle (a US GI sling is preferred; loaner slings are typically available at the event)\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nshooting mat\, carpet remnant or similar\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nLoaner Firearms: loaner firearms suitable for use at this event are generally available but limited. Please contact the Event Director if you would like to request a loaner firearm. \nAdditional Range Information\nYour ticket price includes all range fees and lunch. \nSpectators are welcome but will be asked to remain a safe distance from the firing line (ear protection is required for all spectators; eye protection is optional). Additional lunch tickets will be sold for $10/person on the day of the event. \nOvernight Accommodations\n\nA block of rooms are available at the Holiday Inn Express in Bedford\, IN (about 15 minutes south of the range). Call the hotel directly (812-279-1206) and ask for one of the rooms reserved for “Revere’s Riders/Marty Brown Memorial Open”. The block of rooms will only be held until July 15th; after that\, the rooms will be made available to the general public. \nEvent Sponsors\nWe would like to thank the following event sponsors for their generosity in helping to make this event possible. \n\n\n\n\n\nLWRC International\n\n\n\n\n\nGun Storage Solutions\n\n\n\n\n\nProMag/Archangel\n\n\n\n\n\nIWI\n\n\n\n\n\nPremier Arms\n\n\n\n\n\nGun Tote’n Mamas\n\n\n\n\n\nCrossbreed Holsters\n\n\n\n\n\nBrownells\n\n\n\n\n\nA&A Optics\n\n\n\n\n\nClenzoil\n\n\n\n\n\nGander Outdoors\n\n\n\n\n\nAmerica’s Gunsmith Shop\n\n\n\n\n\nKitanica\n\n\n\n\n\nDaniel Defense\n\n\n\n\n\nUM Tactical\n\n\n\n\n\nHodgdon Powder Co.\n\n\n\n\n\nWalkers\n\n\n\n\n\nATI Outdoors\n\n\n\n\n\nMagpul\n\n\n\n\n\nWilson Combat\n\n\n\n\n\nSIG Sauer\n\n\n\n\n\nOntario Knife Co\n\n\n\n\n\nCVA\n\n\n\n\n\nSCCY\n\n\n\n\n\nWalther\n\n\n\n\n\nVortex Optics\n\n\n\n\n\nHiding Hilda\n\n\n\n\n\nTaurus\n\n\n\n\n\nD&E Printing\n\n\n\n\n\nTimber Creek Outdoors\n\n\n\n\n\nRock River Arms\n\n\n\n\n\nVoodoo Tactical\n\n\n\n\n\nSafariland\n\n\n\n\n\nAlien Gear Holsters\n\n\n\n\n\nCrimson Trace\n\n\n\n\n\nHi-Point Firearms\n\n\n\n\n\nKestrel Meters\n\n\n\n\n\nMossberg\n\n\n\n\n\nColt\n\n\n\n\n\nAdco Sales\n\n\n\n\n\nPalmetto State Armory\n\n\n\n\n\nKelTec\n\n\n\n\n\nBenelli\n\n\n\n\n\nHenry Repeating Arms\n\n\n\n\n\nSpent Rounds Designs\n\n\n\n\n\nNine Line Apparel\n\n\n\n\n\nTarget Factory\n\n\n\n\n\nAguila Ammunition\n\n\n\n\n\nIndy Arms Company\n\n\n\nEva-Dry\n\n\n\n\n\nTed Nugent\n\n\n\n\n\nWindham Weaponry\n\n\n\n\n\nBravo Company Mfg

SUMMARY:HOAG -- 17th Annual Indiana Family Star Party and Prairie Grass Observatory Open House
DESCRIPTION:The Indiana Family Star Party and Prairie Grass Observatory Open House welcomes amateur astronomers of all ages to enjoy the dark skies at Prairie Grass Observatory. It is sponsored by Camp Cullom\, the Wabash Valley Astronomical Society\, the Indiana Astronomical Society\, the Muncie Astronomy Club and supported by the Astronomical League. \nMember activities include a Sky Trekker Observers program for kids and novice adults\, speakers who present on various astronomical topics\, a raffle\, solar observing\, nighttime observing\, camping\, and a nature walk. Campground amenities include on-site showers and restrooms\, and an air-conditioned Nature Center. \nHere is more information:\nhttp://www.indianastars.us/\nhttp://www.indianastars.us/starparty/map.html\nhttps://www.campcullom.org/\n******************************************************************************** \nThis Meetup event has no structured agenda. Everyone is welcome so RSVP and we’ll meet someplace on the grounds. \nMy plans are to arrive around 4-5pm then head straight to the solar telescope in hope of seeing solar flares and sunspots before the sun starts to set. The last time I did this I also saw the rare sight of a man-made satellite cross in front of the sun while I was observing. If a speaker is scheduled\, I’ll go to the nature center and listen to a talk. Sometime before sunset I’ll find a table to sit down and eat\, then take a hike on the easy trails in the woods and prairie until dusk. \nThe real activity starts after sunset around 9:40pm at civil twilight. The Prairie Grass Observatory has several large telescopes you can look through. Also\, amateur astronomers from all over the Midwest have their own telescopes set up and will\, upon request\, allow you to look at what they have focused on. The telescopes are various sizes with some the length of a car. Many are focused on different objects in the sky. The astronomers are eager to share their hobby with guests. \nParking: Do not park at the main entrance even if the gate is open. Instead\, go to the east entrance where you will pay admission and be directed where to park.\nBring: Telescope or binoculars\, camera/tripod\, flashlight w/red lens cover\, insect repellent\, reclining lawn chair\, cooler\, water/drinks\, snacks/food. \nNote… white light flashlights are not permitted near the viewing area as they will ruin other people’s night vision. Let me know and I can provide red plastic film to cover your flashlight lens. \nThis is a very dark campground and rural county providing for some of the best stargazing sky in Indiana. Plan on staying after midnight when you’ll have the opportunity to see the Milky Way light up the sky. Shooting stars are not unusual. Right now\, the forecast is for mostly clear sky so we should be able to see Mars\, Jupiter and its moons\, and the rings of Saturn. \nAlso\, SkyView is a free and really good stargazing app to have on your phone for this event.\niPhone https://apps.apple.com/us/app/skyview-lite/id413936865\nAndroid https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.t11.skyviewfree&hl=en_US

SUMMARY:HOAG -- Camping and Kayaking (Or Canoeing) at Chain O' Lakes
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Chain O’ Lakes to camp and kayak or canoe the kettle lakes inside the park. Boat rentals are available or you can bring your own. \nThis is a joint trip with Hoosier Happy Campers\, The HOAG\, and Indy On Fire. If you are a member of more than one of those groups\, you are welcome to RSVP at each one. This may assist you in finding someone to share your campsite and also ride sharing. Each campsite allows a maximum of 2 tents\, 6 people\, and 1 car. There is overflow parking available. \nWe plan to arrive Friday evening\, cook dinner\, and set up camp. We will get up Saturday morning\, cook breakfast\, and then get ready to go paddling. We will probably eat lunch during our paddle at one of the many shelters in the park. I recommend you bring a cooler or sack to pack your lunch in that is waterproof and can float. We will eat dinner at the campsite. As it gets closer to the event\, we may try and plan a community dinner where everyone chips in. Then we will go to the floating bonfire event hosted by the park. \nSunday morning we will pk up our campsites and then check out some of the attractions in the park like the school house before heading home. \nWhat you are responsible for: \nYour own transportation: \nYour own food for all three days. There will be very limited options to purchase food in the park. I also recommend snacks. \nYour own water and water container. There are water locations in the park. The park also has shower houses and restrooms\, including one near where we are staying. \nYour own campsite. We have reserved site 146 for both nights. I recommend you get site 144 or 148 if available. Otherwise\, check out the campground map to find one near us. Non-Electric sites are $19 per night plus fees and taxes. \nYour own tent\, sleeping bag\, and associated camping gear. \nSunscreen\, bug spray\, a hat\, a dry change of clothes. \nA good attitude. \nWe require everyone (regardless of how well you can swim) to wear a PFD while on the water. You will need the DNR sticker on your boat ($5 at any State Park location). Rentals will have the sticker already.

SUMMARY:IYAK -- ~ Cool Off on White River! ~
DESCRIPTION:So what if it’s gonna be the hottest day of the year? I don’t know about you but I am always cooler when I’m on a river! JOIN ME on a (favorite) scenic 10 mile paddle of White River through southern Morgan County! With SO MANY sandbars there will be SO MANY places to pull off on for a relaxing dip in the river!\nAs of 7/16/19 the river has a steady flow so it will be more of a relaxed paddle or\, more like a float\, but skills will be needed on some sections. But do note that “newbies” have nothing to worry about….as long as you are wearing a (required) PFD!\nPACK A LUNCH – for with\, so many sandbars we will stop along the way for some grub.\nOur trip will end immediately after the ONLY overpass of Henderson Ford Road at the PAS. (Public Access Site)\nMAP: https://goo.gl/maps/Tyw9iezavnksv6mj9 \nDO NOTE! The launch site is 300 yards from the parking area so plan accordingly. I have a kayak dolly to use. If Laurie can make it she has one as well.\nHOWEVER\, I am waiting on a callback from the parks department to see if someone can meet us there to unlock the gate long enough to let us unload just a few feet from the river!\n—————————————————————————————————–\nRemember\, IYAK requires everybody to wear a PFD while they are on the water. Safety first! \nEvent hosts reserve the right to cancel due to inclement weather. Any cancellation or adjustment to the schedule will be posted in this event’s message thread. \n——————————————————————————————————\nWAIVER AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY FOR KAYAKING\, CANOEING AND ALL OTHER ACTIVITIES\nBy RSVPing to\, and attending this event you acknowledge you have read and agree to IYAK’s Waiver of Liability: https://www.meetup.com/IYAK-Indiana-Kayakers/pages/25179426/Liability_Waiver/

SUMMARY:RR -- Pistol 145 (Intro to Defensive Pistol) – One Day (Terre Haute\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:Pistol 145 Overview\nPrerequisites: Suggested—Revere’s Riders Pistol 100 or similar. \nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 500 rounds/day. \nPistol Requirements: You will need a safe pistol (either semi-auto or revolver is fine) with at least five round capacity to fully participate in this course. Pistols should be of a modern\, drop safe design. \nRequired Equipment: You should plan to bring the following equipment to the event: \n\nat least two magazines for your pistol or speed loaders for your revolver\nstrong side holster that does not collapse when your pistol is drawn (no appendix\, ankle or small-of-back holsters)\nmagazine holster\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nOverview: Pistol 145 begins with an overview of the range rules\, safety procedures and quick reminder of the fundamentals from basic pistol. \nAdditional Event Information\nMinors (under 18 years old) must be mature enough to follow the instruction and perform the drills as well as have a parent or legal guardian present during the event. \nAll questions concerning the event should be directed to Jake Woodcock (click link below for contact information).

SUMMARY:IYAK -- Moonlight Paddle: Summit Lake State Park
DESCRIPTION:Moonlight Paddle \nSummit Lake State Park \nTrip Difficulty: Easy (Beginner to Advanced Skills) \nWe’re heading back to an IYAK favorite\, Summit Lake State Park\, an hour east of Indy. \nThe moon will be nearly full. With a clear sky\, it will be bright for another great moonlight paddle. Sunset is at 9:13pm\, while the moonrise is at 6:35pm. This means we should have adequate light for paddling\, barring any cloud cover. Make sure you bring a flashlight or headlamp and feel free to add additional lighting to your boat. We’ll paddle around the lake for a few hours then head in. \nThere is always plenty of wildlife to see\, including beavers\, turtles and birds. \nWe will meet at the boat ramp near the boat rental concession area (turn left when you enter the park) at 7:30pm and we will be on the water at 8:00-8:15pm. We’ll paddle past sunset\, enjoy the moonlight\, then head in when the group decides. \nInfo for Summit Lake State Park can be found at http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2967.htm). Visit our IYAK File Section (http://www.meetup.com/IYAK-Indiana-Kayakers/files/) to download a park brochure. There is a $7 park admission fee (or annual state pass).
