DESCRIPTION:Short Paddle Eagle Creek Reservoir \nDifficulty Level: Easy – Beginner\, Intermediate or Advanced \nThe weather is supposed to good so we will try to do a quick paddle. We need to stretch our kayaking muscles. \nWe will be meeting at the Dandy Trail boat ramp\, located about a block north of Rick’s Cafe Boatyard at 2:00pm\, launch at 2:30pm and plan to be off the water by 4:30pm. \nThe boat ramp entrance fee is $5\, cash only. You can optionally purchase yearly passes. \nIf you don’t need to drop off a boat at the ramp there is a free parking lot between Rick’s and the boat ramp. If you park here you’ll have to walk about 100 yards to get to the launch site. \nSuggested items to bring: Kayak or SUP\, paddle\, PFD\, wide brimmed hat\, sun block\, hand sanitizer\, sunglasses\, large sponge\, bilge pump or container to bail out water\, water\, snacks\, weather radio\, towel\, change of clothes\, water shoes\, paddling gloves\, rain gear\, bug spray\, safety whistle\, drybags\, Ziplock bags\, camera\, binoculars\, rope\, headlamp or flashlight\, a sense of adventure\, and a good dose of humor. \nFor clothing try to use something other than cotton\, especially since the weather is cool. SUMMARY:IHMG -- Hike @ Fort Harrison
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday it should start to feel like spring again\, and we’ll be doing a local hike at this park on the northeast side of town. This will mostly be a moderate hike\, but we’ll see a few hills and likely see some muddy trails. \nThe hike itself will consist of two routes through the park. We’ll begin with a half-mile walk across the park from where we’ll begin at the Delaware Lake parking lot to the Lawrence Creek trail\, which is a 3.6-mile loop. After that trail\, anyone who’s ready to call it a day can do so. We’ll then make our way down the street to the Shoen Creek trail and hike about another 3 miles there. Then we’ll return to where we began and overall we’ll cover roughly 7.5 miles. \nAdmission is $7. \nWe’ll meet at the parking lot next to Delaware Lake. After passing by the gatehouse\, you’ll take the first right you come to and this road will take you back to the parking lot. DESCRIPTION:The rocky gorges and stream beds at this state park make for some of the best hiking trails in the state\, and I’m hoping this Sunday hike will be free of rain. We’ll cover around 7.5 miles\, lasting around 3.5 hours. Be sure to pack plenty to drink\, along with any other gear you’ll need. We’ll be seeing a combination of rocky and hilly terrain along with some steep staircases. \nPLEASE NOTE: This will be a rugged\, lengthy hike\, so if you’re not ready for something rigorous\, please consider your fitness limits and wait for another less challenging hike. This is not a hike for beginners or those who are still building endurance. Injuries can happen when someone is working beyond his or her limits\, and I’d like to keep everyone injury free. \nAdmission to the park is $7. \nWe’ll be meeting in the parking lot in front of the Nature Center at 2pm. DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Easy/Moderate. Depending on recent rainfall\, the river may be moving fast and good boat handling skills may be needed from time to time. Logjams and strainers can be expected. \nWe will return to East Fork White River for this trip. This time we will paddle from Azalia to Seymour. The put in site is just a few miles south of Columbus. SUMMARY:MBA -- Early Spring Overnight Backpacking Trip in Brown County
DESCRIPTION:What’s up everyone? It’s time to get an early spring trip on the calendar… I haven’t solidified the exact location just yet\, but below are a couple of options I’m kicking around. Looking for your feedback or recommendations. \nInstead of trying to do something really ambitious\, I’m hoping to put something together that will appeal to the group and that will get us outside together! That’s also why I’m leaning towards just 1 night vs. 2. Would love your input and if you have other ideas\, speak up! Here are the options I’m currently considering for this one: \nOption 1: Peninsula Trail in Charles C. Deam Wilderness (2 hours south of Indy)\n– Hike the Peninsula Trail and camp by the Lake Monroe. This would be about 10 miles round trip (5 in\, 5 back) with about 800 ft of elevation gain. Possibly some light cross country towards the end of the trail to find the ideal camp spot. Here’s a link for more info: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/us/indiana/peninsula-trail–3 \nOption 2: Sycamore Loop Trail in Charles C. Deam Wilderness (2 hours south of Indy)\n– There are some great campsites along the creek on the Sycamore Trail. It’s a 6.4 mile loop or it could be done as a shorter out & back\, but I’d prefer to do the loop. There’s only about 500 ft of elevation gain on this hike. We will put in at the Forest Park access point which is located at 399 State Road 19 in Noblesville. We will need to shuttle our vehicles. The shuttle procedure will be determined when we see how many people will be attending this event. We will stop along the river to eat. \nDon’t forget to wear your green. DESCRIPTION:This Saturday we’ll be making a short road trip southwest of Indy to this state park. Our plan for the hike will be to cover between 7 and 8 miles (around 2.5 to 3 hours) on the creek-side and wooded trails. \nThe terrain will mainly be moderate but will include some rugged\, rocky areas with a few hills. We’ll also be doing some creek crossings as the trail goes back and forth over the creek\, and at the end of the hike we’ll be tackling one massive staircase. \nIt’s $7 per vehicle to enter the park. \nWe’ll be meeting within the park at Hill Crest Shelter. The parking lot across the street from the shelter is where we’ll meet\, and the shelter offers restrooms. (You can also stop at the Nature Center’s restrooms before the hike.) However\, this is not a training event and participants should not expect to receive extensive instruction. This is generally Indiana state law (see IC 35-47-2-1). If you are refused entry to the base for any reason\, your event fees will not be refunded. \nDirections to Range Control \nYou will be required to pass through the Camp Atterbury main gate to access the military side of the base. When asked\, tell gate security that you are there for the Revere’s Riders event along with any other information gate security requests. IMPORTANT—do NOT attempt to go to the range on your own. There are numerous ranges at Camp Atterbury and any number of them can be “hot” at any given time. There are ranges for pistols\, rifles\, artillery as well as strafing (witnessing an A-10 Warthog engaging in a strafing run is awe inspiring from a distance); some of the ranges involve firing over roadways (if the range is “hot”\, these should be blockaded\, but better safe than sorry). Wandering onto any of these ranges while they are “hot” could lead to a VERY bad day. Range Control is reached by continuing south on the entrance road (Eggleston Street). Range Control will be on your left just before County Road 900 South. Let them know that you are with Revere’s Riders. \nWin an Autographed Copy of “Lone Survivor”\nAt every Revere’s Riders event we tell some of the history of April 19th\, 1775 and the Battles of Lexington and Concord\, events that occurred over 240 years ago. The spirit of the heroes who gave the full measure of their “lives\, fortune and sacred honor” on April 19th\, 1775 still lives on in the modern United States military. I doubt Marcus Luttrell needs any introduction to those contemplating attending this event. For those who don’t already know his story\, Marcus was deployed to Afghanistan in 2005 with Seal Team Ten as a Hospital Corpsman Second Class. He and three other members of Seal Team Ten (Navy Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy\, operation commander\, Petty Officer Second Class Danny Dietz and Petty Officer Second Class Matthew G. Axelson) were assigned to Operation Red Wings. During the initial stages of Operation Red Wings\, the team was discovered by local Afghan goat herders. After determining the goat herders were most likely civilians and not combatants\, the team released them according to the ROE (“rules of engagement”). The goat herders would inform the Taliban of the team’s position and all but Luttrell would become casualties in the ensuring battle.

DESCRIPTION:Rifle 125 (Basic Rifle) Overview\nPrerequisites: None \nEquipment: Bring 150 to 200 rounds of ammunition per day and a safe rifle.  It is helpful that all ammunition be of the same type (i.e. same weight\, manufacturer\, etc) for this event.  Our volunteers have identified several accessories that may be helpful at this type of event.   Shooting will primarily be at 25 yards.  At some facilities\, it may be possible to move out to longer distances\, but a rimfire rifle should be just fine for all activities. \nOverview:  This our signature offering\, based on traditional American riflecraft that teaches “Hits Count!” It is appropriate for a wide breadth of student skill levels. This course lays a sound foundation for students to shoot groups under time pressure from a variety of practical field positions.  Rifle 125 includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Paul Revere did not ride alone – many individuals played crucial roles in the events of April 19th\, 1775. \nThis history presentation begins with alarm riders warning “the Regulars are out!” You’ll hear about the dramatic stand on Lexington Green and the “shots heard ’round the world” at Concord’s North Bridge. The tale concludes with harrowing life-or-death choices made along the 17 mile “battle road.” \nThis exciting tale will be woven throughout the day’s marksmanship events. \nAdditional Event Information\n\nWe will have a fire going for the entire weekend so if you get cold out on the range you can take a break and warm up.\nBe sure to bring a lunch as restaurants in Columbus and Nashville are not close enough to visit without missing instruction and history presentations that are given during the lunch break.\nOn Saturday\, we will provide supplies for making S’Mores (yum!).\nIf you have one\, bring your centerfire rifle for the Known Distance (KD) segment on Sunday afternoon.\n\n

Up to $50 credit towards your cost of leading future trip for CIWC. \n  Maximum/Minimum number: 40/10\n  Holliday Park:  6363 Spring Mill Rd.\, Indianapolis \n  Date: November 4\, 2017 – 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM \n  Cancellation Date: October 15th (fee must be received by this\n  date). \n  The entire day (9 AM to 4 PM) at Holliday will be devoted to Basic Wilderness First Aid (BWFA) and CPR Classes.  These are for current CIWC trip leaders with certifications expiring before the 2018 trip season and / or those new people wishing to become trip leaders.\n  This training is required to be a CIWC trip leader and you’ll find the classes to be pertinent to the type of trips we do and the venues we travel to.  The class instructor is Doug Pyle\, EMT with the Fishers Fire Department.  Doug is also an outdoor adventurer and Boy Scout leader.  He has been teaching classes for CIWC for 3 years.  \n  Holliday Park is located at 6363 Spring Mill Rd\, Indianapolis. DESCRIPTION:Rifle 223 (Carbine) Overview\nPrerequisites: Suggested—Rifle 125 or similar training. You should be familiar with basic safety and operation of your carbine. \nAmmunition:  250 rounds/day \nEquipment:  Please review our suggestions on what to bring.  You can order accessories that our volunteers have found helpful as well. \nThis course is conducted as an NRA America’s Rifle Challenge clinic.  Students will learn modern defensive shooting skills on the AR platform. You’ll get the chance to earn your “Well Regulated” patch by completing the Bedford Contingent Qualifier. \nNo special equipment needed. A carbine w/sling\, two mags and ammo. Run a standard\, no frills M-4 with an extra mag in your pocket or wear your favorite plate carrier\, helmet and battle belt chock full of mags for your tricked out SCAR. Shooters choice! \nClass runs 8-5 on Saturday and 9-4 on Sunday. \nAdditional Range Information\nTicket prices include all range fees\, delicious lunch\, snacks and refreshments. \nPotable water and porta-potty on site.
