SUMMARY:IYAK -- St. Paddy's Day Paddle: White River - Noblesville to Hazel Dell Landing
DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Easy to moderate. This will be suitable for beginners and up. \nThe trip will be 12 miles long and will probably last about 3-4 hours. We will put in at the Forest Park access point which is located at 399 State Road 19 in Noblesville. The Google Maps link for the drive to the put-in point from Indianapolis is: https://goo.gl/maps/jwSGRiWVAYN2. We will take out at the Hazel Dell Landing access point. We will need to shuttle our vehicles. The shuttle procedure will be determined when we see how many people will be attending this event. If we leave the boats at the put-in point at Noon we should be able to drop off the vehicles at the take-out point and be back and on the water around 1:00pm. \nBe sure to bring a lunch. We will stop along the river to eat. \nDon’t forget to wear your green. Just save the green beer for AFTER the paddle. \nSuggested items to bring: Kayak\, paddle\, PFD\, wide brimmed hat\, sun block\, hand sanitizer\, sunglasses\, large sponge\, bilge pump or container to bail out water\, water\, snacks\, weather radio\, towel\, water shoes\, paddling gloves\, rain gear\, bug spray\, safety whistle\, drybags\, Ziplock bags\, camera\, binoculars\, rope\, headlamp or flashlight\, a sense of adventure\, and a good dose of humor. Please be extra cautious in what you wear. Being a river trip once we launch we cant go back. Please pack a spare set of warm clothes to bring with you (just in case). \nFor clothing try to use something other than cotton\, especially since the water will be cold. Polypropylene or polyester are good choices since neither holds water and they wick moisture away from you. Drysuits or wetsuits are highly recommended. \nEvent hosts reserve the right to cancel due to inclement weather. Any cancellation or adjustment to the schedule will be posted in this event’s message thread. \nFor more information call the Trip Leader\, Laurie Shoemaker\, at (463)[masked]. \nPlease answer ALL of the questions when you RSVP.\n—————————————————————- \nWAIVER AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY FOR KAYAKING\, CANOEING AND ALL OTHER ACTIVITIES\nBy RSVPing to\, and attending this event you acknowledge you have read and agree to IYAK’s Waiver of Liability: https://www.meetup.com/IYAK-Indiana-Kayakers/pages/25179426/Liability_Waiver/

SUMMARY:RR -- Pistol 145 (Intro to Defensive Pistol) – One Day (Terre Haute\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:Pistol 145 Overview\nPrerequisites: Suggested—Revere’s Riders Pistol 100 or similar. \nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 500 rounds/day. \nPistol Requirements: You will need a safe pistol (either semi-auto or revolver is fine) with at least five round capacity to fully participate in this course. Pistols should be of a modern\, drop safe design. \nOlder single action pistols manufactured before the 1980s and lacking a transfer bar safety are the most common type of pistol that lack drop safe design features\, as do some military surplus imports from Eastern bloc countries and Taurus PT-series pistols not fixed during an international safety recall in 2015. These pistols may discharge if dropped and pose a potential safety hazard to our volunteers and students\, and are not permitted. If you have concerns about the safety features of your pistol you should have it inspected by an armorer or gunsmith before class. \nRequired Equipment: You should plan to bring the following equipment to the event: \n\nat least two magazines for your pistol or speed loaders for your revolver\nstrong side holster that does not collapse when your pistol is drawn (no appendix\, ankle or small-of-back holsters)\nmagazine holster\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nOverview: Pistol 145 begins with an overview of the range rules\, safety procedures and quick reminder of the fundamentals from basic pistol. From there\, the course focuses on the mechanics of defensive pistol shooting.  Lecture topics include: “Why do we do this?”\, the physiological and psychological aspects of dynamic critical incidents for both the “good guy” and the “bad guy”\, firearms and ancillary equipment for defensive use among other topics.  Range exercises build on each successive evolution ending the day with a simple drill that rehearses the physical and mental issues dealt with during the class. \nAdditional Event Information\nMinors (under 18 years old) must be mature enough to follow the instruction and perform the drills as well as have a parent or legal guardian present during the event. \nAll questions regarding this event should be directed to Jake Woodcock (click the link for Jake Woodcock below for contact information).

SUMMARY:RR -- Camp Atterbury Pistol “Pop-Up” Target (Edinburgh\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:Camp Atterbury Pistol “Pop-Up” Target Overview\nPrerequisites: Suggested—Pistol 100 (Basic Pistol) or equivalent previous experience. If you plan to draw from the holster during the pistol portion of this event\, you should have prior training in how to do so safely. This is not an introductory event and involves quickly engaging “pop-up” targets. No formal instruction will be provided. \nPistol and Ammunition Required: A drop-safe pistol (centerfire is recommended but rimfire should be fine as well) in any of the following calibers: .22LR\, 9x19mm\, .38/.357 Magnum\, .40 S&W and .45 ACP ONLY. The pistol range we will be using is restricted to these calibers; if you bring a pistol chambered in any other caliber\, be prepared to be a spectator. \nYou should bring\, at a minimum\, 500 rounds of ammunition (more is always better). Incendiary ammunition is prohibited; otherwise\, there are no other ammunition restrictions. \nRequired Equipment: You will be required to have the following equipment to participate in this event: \n\ndrop-safe pistol chambered in .22LR\, 9x19mm\, .38/.357 Magnum\, .40 S&W or .45 ACP\nminimum of 500 rounds of ammunition in your pistol’s caliber (more is always better)\nminimum of 4 pistol magazines (you guessed it\, more is better!)\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nlunch (leaving base for lunch is not feasible)\nsnacks\n\nOptional Equipment: The following optional equipment may be helpful to you during this event but is not required: \n\nholster\, mag carriers and gun belt for your pistol; note that your holster and belt must satisfy the following requirements:\n\neither IWB or OWB (no appendix\, small-of-the-back\, shoulder\, etc. holsters will be allowed)\nholster must position your pistol between the 3 and 5 o’clock position on your waist\nholster must correctly fit your pistol\nholster must completely cover the trigger guard of your pistol\nholster must not collapse when pistol is withdrawn\nyour belt must adequately support the weight of your pistol (this generally excludes nearly all belts not expressly designed for concealed carry use)\nevent staff reserve the right to deny use of any holster deemed a safety risk\n\n\nmagazine loader (Maglula UPLULA or similar)\nfolding chair\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\na hat with brim to protect from flying brass and the sun\nif you wish to collect your own brass\, bring whatever containers/equipment you desire for that purpose. All brass not collected by event participants will be collected by us and disposed of appropriately\n\nProhibited Equipment: The following equipment WILL NOT BE ALLOWED at this event: \n\nany pistol chambered for a caliber other than .22LR\, 9x19mm\, .38/.357 Magnum\, .40 S&W or .45 ACP\nholster not meeting the above requirements\n\nEvent Details\nCamp Atterbury is an active military installation\, as such we may have our scheduled access removed as late as the day before the event. As the “pop-up” target pistol and rifle ranges are actively used to qualify military personnel on their sidearms and rifles\, events utilizing those ranges are most likely to have schedule changes. \nPop-Up Pistol Range \nThe pop-up pistol range is designed specifically to accommodate US Army pistol qualification. Consequently\, the pop-up pistol range extends only to 30 yards; it’s targets are computer controlled and scored. Drawing from the holster will be allowed at this event for those that have the proper holster and can demonstrate a safe draw and re-holster of their pistol. \nThose who do not wish to draw from the holster may begin each pistol course of fire from the low or high ready positions. \n \nNo Formal Instruction \nWhile there will be no formal instruction at this event\, experienced firearms instructors will be present and can provide limited instruction as needed. However\, this is not a training event and participants should not expect to receive extensive instruction. Contact the Event Director prior to registering with any questions. \nProfiles of Patriots\nWe will take brief breaks throughout the day to honor George Washington and the men who embraced his leadership while battling for their (and our) Freedom. \nAdditional Event Information\nPre-registration is Required\nAll participants must purchase tickets by the DEADLINE of 5:00 PM on March 2\, 2019.  Absolutely no registrations will be allowed after this deadline. The unique venue for this event requires that we share your name and other personal information you submit to Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center (CAJMTC)\, Military Police and the Range Control office. Your information will not be used in any manner other than to allow your admittance to the installation and to contact you regarding this event. Pre-registration is required so that we can forward your information to CAJMTC in time for the event. You are also responsible for reading the below additional range information specific to Camp Atterbury. Please keep in mind that we are using a military facility and military rules and discipline are in force. \nTicket price includes all range fees. \nRefund Policy\nEvent will be held RAIN or SHINE!\nRefunds will only be issued for this event due to cancellation of the event by military authorities. Absolutely no refunds will be given for any other reason. \nAdditional Range Information\nArrival Time \nYou MUST Arrive On Time\nPlan to arrive NO LATER than 7:45AM. Anyone arriving later than this will not be allowed to participate in the event and your event fees will not be refunded. This is due to the need to meet at Range Control and proceed to the range as a group. We will not wait for you; plan to be early. \nBase Firearms Policy \nCAJMTC firearms policy—NO LOADED FIREARMS PERMITTED ON BASE. Concealed carry is NOT ALLOWED on base; you may only load a firearm while on a designated range. Before you proceed to to the base entrance and attempt to pass through security\, make sure that all firearms in your vehicle and on your person (don’t forget your concealed carry sidearm) are unloaded\, in a secure case and separated from your ammunition. This is generally Indiana state law (see IC 35-47-2-1). If you are refused entry to the base for any reason\, your event fees will not be refunded. \nDirections to Range Control \nYou will be required to pass through the Camp Atterbury main gate to access the military side of the base. When asked\, tell gate security that you are there for the Revere’s Riders event along with any other information gate security requests. IMPORTANT—do NOT attempt to go to the range on your own. There are numerous ranges at Camp Atterbury and any number of them can be “hot” at any given time. There are ranges for pistols\, rifles\, artillery as well as strafing (witnessing an A-10 Warthog engaging in a strafing run is awe inspiring from a distance); some of the ranges involve firing over roadways (if the range is “hot”\, these should be blockaded\, but better safe than sorry). Wandering onto any of these ranges while they are “hot” could lead to a VERY bad day. Range Control is reached by continuing south on the entrance road (Eggleston Street). Range Control will be on your left just before County Road 900 South. Himsel Airfield will be on your right just beyond the intersection of Eggleston Street and CR 900 S. \nAdditional Event Information\nTicket price includes all range fees. \nOvernight Accommodations\nCivilian lodging is available on base for those who wish to stay overnight. Standard rooms with shared bathroom are $33/night and Deluxe rooms with private bath are $38/night. For reservations\, call the Camp Atterbury Lodging Office at 812-526-1128. Let them know that you are with Revere’s Riders. \nWin an Autographed Copy of “Lone Survivor”\nAt every Revere’s Riders event we tell some of the history of April 19th\, 1775 and the Battles of Lexington and Concord\, events that occurred over 240 years ago. The spirit of the heroes who gave the full measure of their “lives\, fortune and sacred honor” on April 19th\, 1775 still lives on in the modern United States military. I doubt Marcus Luttrell needs any introduction to those contemplating attending this event. For those who don’t already know his story\, Marcus was deployed to Afghanistan in 2005 with Seal Team Ten as a Hospital Corpsman Second Class. He and three other members of Seal Team Ten (Navy Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy\, operation commander\, Petty Officer Second Class Danny Dietz and Petty Officer Second Class Matthew G. Axelson) were assigned to Operation Red Wings. During the initial stages of Operation Red Wings\, the team was discovered by local Afghan goat herders. After determining the goat herders were most likely civilians and not combatants\, the team released them according to the ROE (“rules of engagement”). The goat herders would inform the Taliban of the team’s position and all but Luttrell would become casualties in the ensuring battle.

SUMMARY:RR--Rifle 125 (Basic Rifle) – Two Day (Dec 2-3\, 2017\, Nashville\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:Rifle 125 (Basic Rifle) Overview\nPrerequisites: None \nEquipment: Bring 150 to 200 rounds of ammunition per day and a safe rifle.  It is helpful that all ammunition be of the same type (i.e. same weight\, manufacturer\, etc) for this event.  Our volunteers have identified several accessories that may be helpful at this type of event.   Shooting will primarily be at 25 yards.  At some facilities\, it may be possible to move out to longer distances\, but a rimfire rifle should be just fine for all activities. \nOverview:  This our signature offering\, based on traditional American riflecraft that teaches “Hits Count!” It is appropriate for a wide breadth of student skill levels. This course lays a sound foundation for students to shoot groups under time pressure from a variety of practical field positions.  Rifle 125 includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn: \n\nRules for safe gun handling & range rules\nRifle parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nNatural Point of Aim\nShooting from the prone\, standing and sitting/kneeling positions to include use of the sling\nIntroduction to Sight Adjustments and basic calculation of minutes of angle\n25 Yard “Morgan’s 13” Classifier\n25 Yard Rifle Qualifier\nTwo Day Only:  Intermediate calculation of minutes of angle for precise sight adjustments at all ranges\nTwo Day Only:  Introduction to Field Shooting\, to include basic ballistics and live firing to longer distances (if the range facility permits)\nTwo Day Only:  As time allows\, there may be additional opportunities to engage in challenging competitions to include the Rifle Qualifier\, Classic Carbine Qualification\, Battle Rattle\, and/or Field Shoot\n\nThe Midnight Ride of Paul Revere\nHear the true story of Paul Revere’s famous ride and learn about the events that immediately precipitated the Revolutionary War. Paul Revere did not ride alone – many individuals played crucial roles in the events of April 19th\, 1775. \nThis history presentation begins with alarm riders warning “the Regulars are out!” You’ll hear about the dramatic stand on Lexington Green and the “shots heard ’round the world” at Concord’s North Bridge. The tale concludes with harrowing life-or-death choices made along the 17 mile “battle road.” \nThis exciting tale will be woven throughout the day’s marksmanship events. \nAdditional Event Information\n\nWe will have a fire going for the entire weekend so if you get cold out on the range you can take a break and warm up.\nBe sure to bring a lunch as restaurants in Columbus and Nashville are not close enough to visit without missing instruction and history presentations that are given during the lunch break.\nOn Saturday\, we will provide supplies for making S’Mores (yum!).\nIf you have one\, bring your centerfire rifle for the Known Distance (KD) segment on Sunday afternoon.\n\n

DESCRIPTION:Pistol 100 (Basic Pistol) Overview\nPrerequisites: None \nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 200 rounds/day. \nPistol 100 includes classroom and range time learning to shoot handguns. Students learn: \n\nRules for safe gun handling & range rules\nPistol parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nTwo Handed Grip & Stance: Isoceles\, benchrest\, and low ready positions (Weaver may also be taught)\nNatural Point of Aim\nShot Group Analysis\nClearing Common Stoppages\nWhittemore’s Stand Pistol Qualifier\nClassic WW2 Pistol Qualification Test (optional)\n\nThis course\, based on traditional American service pistol fundamentals teaches “Hits Count!” This course lays a sound foundation for students to shoot groups under time pressure from a practical stance. \nPistol Requirements: You will need a safe pistol with at least five round capacity to fully participate in this course. \nOther Equipment Requirements: We will not be drawing from the holster in this class and we will run a “cold range.” You will not need a holster to participate in the class activities. \nThe Midnight Ride of Paul Revere\nHear the true story of Paul Revere’s famous ride and learn about the events that immediately precipitated the Revolutionary War. Along the way we will view the Tinker Cliff\, stay in two AT shelters and have plenty of time to take in the scenery get all our pictures of the Blue Ridge Mountains when we arrive at the McAfee Knob. The trip is planned from Friday to Tuesday with hopes of avoiding the hiker crowds in the shelters over the week-end. Surely the fall colors will also be part of our trail delight.\nThe trip price includes two nights’ hotel lodging with breakfasts\, two trail breakfasts\, two trail dinners\, shuttles\, and transportation in the club van. In preparation for the trip a couple of day hikes and a possible overnight hike will be arranged.

SUMMARY:CIWC--Lost in the Woods at Location TBD (Oct 7-8\, 2017)
DESCRIPTION:https://ciwclub.org/event-2640312 \nLost in the Woods\n October 7-8\, 2017\n Leaders: Bob Hart and Steve Kinch\n Contact: ciwcinfo@gmail.com\n Cost: $30\n Cancellation Date and full payment: September 15\, 2017\n Adults only\n Group Size: Maximum 11 Minimum 8\n Wilderness Level: 3\n Difficulty: Moderate \n Lost in the Woods\n Are you ready to become a survivor? On this trip we’ll learn the importance and value of carrying “THE ESSENTIALS” in your day pack. The scenario – we’re out day hiking and something goes wrong. Now we are forced to spend the night in the woods with only the contents of our day packs to SURVIVE. \n This will be an intermediate trip (not for beginners) and we’ll work together to make a shelter\, find water\, build a fire and improvise with basic tools you will have in your day pack. A list of essentials will be provided by the leaders and it will compare very closely with the classic and modern lists that outdoor experts and survivalists use. Tents and sleeping bags are out so you’ll be improvising to make a shelter and stay warm during the night. You’ll also be working as a team. Not only will it be fun but rewarding as a memorable learning experience. We are asking that everyone who applies should have spent a minimum of 3 nights in previous backcountry situations. \n This will be a reprise of a similar CIWC event from 2015. The participants in that event were all newer members in the club at the time with less than 2 years of club experience. Six of that group have gone on to become trip leaders and 3 became members of the board. So\, they were successful and what a confidence builder! \n The exact destination will be withheld until the end but you’ll be guided to meet at a rendezvous point outside of the wilderness. The event will last just a bit over 24 hours from Saturday morning to Sunday morning. The cost (estimated at $30) will cover “one last meal” (at lunch) and some surprises. You’ll be expected to submit a medical form and sign a waiver and release.\n Additional information including a list of what to bring will be supplied after you sign up. Cancellation date is: Sept 15\, 2017.

Sylvania Wilderness is a beautiful and pristine area of 18\,000 acres\, with 34 lakes\, and 25 miles of hiking trails and portages. The portages are well-maintained and easy trails of short to moderate length. One of the days while we are camping in Sylvania\, we will take a day trip in the van to the resort town of Eagle River\, WI\, about 35 miles away. We will leave our campsite on Clark Lake early on Saturday morning\, paddle back to the landing\, and hit the road after a much-needed hot shower\, arriving home late Saturday evening.\nThe trip fee will include all meals and snacks on Monday through Friday\, except for the day we travel to Eagle River\, and meals on the drive up and drive home on Sunday and Saturday. We will provide the stoves\, fuel\, cook gear\, eating and drinking cups\, plates\, and eating utensils. For suppers\, we will have home-made dehydrated meals or Mountain House entrees\, and Ramen noodles\, along with some puddings or other desserts. We may be able to have some fried fish to supplement our regular menu\, if we have fishermen\, and they catch fish they can keep. For lunches\, we will have peanut butter\, jelly\, tuna in foil packs\, Miracle Whip or mayonnaise on tortillas\, flatbread or sandwich thins. There will also be beef jerky\, summer sausage\, dried apples\, and granola bars for snacks. For breakfasts\, we will have bacon\, eggs\, oatmeal\, granola\, and pancakes\, but probably not all for the same breakfast! We will have coffee singles\, tea bags\, Crystal Lite drink mix packets\, and hot cocoa for drinks. No alcoholic beverages will be permitted. We will have filtered lake water to drink at all times as well. If you have any special dietary needs or complaints with the above fare\, let me know. There will be weight and space restrictions on what you can bring. The club leaders will bring all the food and gear needed for the trip. You will just need an inflatable sleeping pad\, sleeping bag\, tent\, and clothes. SUMMARY:HCKC--Eagle Creek Clean-Up (Sept 30\, 2017)
DESCRIPTION:https://hoosiercanoeandkayakclub.wildapricot.org/event-2637129 \nWe will have a shoreline cleanup of Eagle Creek on Saturday\, September 30th. This is an opportunity to pay back one of our local partners and one of Indianapolis’s premier paddling resources by cleaning up the shores of Eagle Creek reservoir.\n* When: Saturday\, September 30th\, 10 a.m (Ready to Launch) until 1:00 pm \n* Where: Eagle Creek Park\, Canoe and Kayak put-in at the southwest end of the Discovery Center Parking Lot (next to Go Ape) \n* What to Bring: Snacks\, water\, gloves\, hat\, good water shoes\, sunscreen\, bug spray\, and your canoe or kayak. Trash bags and some trash grabber thingies will be provided. You might bring a knife for cutting fishing line. \n* Park Entry: This event has been added to the park calendar. When entering the park\, please tell the person at the entrance that you are a HCKC member here for the shoreline clean up. \nWe’ll plan to work until early afternoon or until we run out of trash to pick up. Plan to stay for all or part of the clean-up\, and we often go out of lunch afterwards.\nFor all the club members who have enjoyed getting into the park using the HCKC park pass on Tuesdays\, this clean-up is part of the price for that privilege. The club is committed to work 100 volunteer hours for the park in 2017. The HCKC gets volunteer hours for safety boating during the park’s popular moonlight and sunset paddles run by the Eagle Creek Outfitters\, and for clean-ups during the year. We’d like to thank those who have safety boated or already helped with park clean-ups.\nSide note: On a warm July day\, two HCKC members got to do some impromptu safety boating when they noticed two swimmers struggling to make progress towards shore while towing a swamped tandem kayak. Fortunately\, the swimmers were not panicked\, had retained both paddles\, ziplock bag with electronics\, and were wearing life jackets. Minutes later\, tandem drained and floating\, bilge pump (point of discussion) used to get even more water out\, and two paddlers back in the boat\, and once again on their way!\nQuestions?
