SUMMARY:IYAK -- White River - Broad Ripple to Downtown
DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Easy. This is great for beginners\, guests wanting to give IYAK a try\, and those in the mood for a more ‘urban’ paddling experience. Urban as it is however – you’ll be surprised by the natural beauty of this stretch of the mighty White! \nIt’s a great trip – relatively short at about 2-3 hours with few obstacles and little fast water – but the scenery and landmarks are great. \nWe’ll put in at the north end of Cornell Street in Broad Ripple (along the Monon Trail – just a few blocks north of the Rusted Moon). There is a nice ramp there with ample parking. We’ll take out at the Lake Indy boat ramp in Riverside Park – near 26th Street. \nAlong the way\, we’ll pass under several bridges at College\, Meridian\, Kessler Blvd \, Michigan Road\, 38th Street\, I-65\, and 29th Street. We’ll also pass Holiday Park\, Butler University\, Newfields (Art Museum)\, and many other familiar Indy Landmarks. \nWe’re going to leave our vehicles at the top in Broad Ripple rather than Riverside park for security reasons. At the end of the trip – you can stay with your boat – and the drivers will grab an Uber back up to Broad Ripple to get cars and come down to collect the boats at Riverside Park – so bring a couple of bucks to split the Uber. \nSince we’re doing our vehicle shuttling at the end of the trip – we’ll cast off from Broad Ripple at 1:00 sharp on Sunday – so be there early enough to get your gear ready to set sail. \nFor anybody interested we will head to the White River Yacht Club afterward for a sandwich and perhaps an adult beverage. \nSuggested items to bring: Wide brimmed hat\, sun block\, hand sanitizer\, sunglasses\, large sponge\, bilge pump or container to bail out water\, water\, snacks\, weather radio\, towel\, change of clothes\, water shoes\, paddling gloves\, rain gear\, bug spray\, safety whistle\, drybags\, Ziplock bags\, camera\, binoculars\, rope\, headlamp or flashlight\, a sense of adventure\, and a good dose of humor. \n*Remember\, the new IYAK policy is all participants MUST wear a PFD while on the water. \nTrip Leader: Jay and Julie Beattey (317)[masked]. \nThis trip may be changed or cancelled due to weather or water conditions. \nWhen you RSVP please answer ALL of the questions. \n***********************************************************************WAIVER AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY FOR KAYAKING\, CANOEING AND ALL OTHER ACTIVITIESBy RSVPing to\, and attending this event you acknowledge you have read and agree to IYAK’s Waiver of Liability: https://www.meetup.com/IYAK-Indiana-Kayakers/pages/25179426/Liability_Waiver/

DESCRIPTION:This is a joint event with the Indy On Fire Group. \nJoin us at Clifty Falls State (http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2985.htm) park for a guided tour of 5 waterfalls and then a hike through some streams. \nOur itinerary is simple. We will take a 1 hour trail hike with the guide (10:00AM – 11:00). This will be the 5 waterfalls. http://www.in.gov/activecalendar_dnr/EventList.aspx?view=EventDetails&eventidn=22887&information_id=54008&type=&syndicate=syndicate \nAfter the waterfall hike\, we will venture out to the fire tower. Bring binoculars. \nOnce the hike is over\, we will go to the Falls Restaurant at Clifty Inn (inside the park) for lunch. The Inn has a buffet and reasonably priced food menu. If for some reason the Inn is closed\, there are lots of dining options in Madison. \nAt 2:00PM we will meet the guide at the Pool Parking Lot for a 1 hour hike along a stream. Wear shoes that can get wet. http://www.in.gov/activecalendar_dnr/EventList.aspx?view=EventDetails&eventidn=22888&information_id=54010&type=&syndicate=syndicate \nIf you want to carpool from Indianapolis\, meet at the WalMart (4650 South Emerson Avenue\, Indianapolis). We will leave promptly at 8:00AM whether you are there or not. The drive is about 2 hours each way and $10 per rider is suggested to cover the driver’s gas. \nIf you want to meet us at the park\, be at the Clifty Shelter by 10:00AM. SUMMARY:IYAK -- Moonlight Paddle at Brush Creek Reservoir
DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Easy (Beginner to Advanced Skills) \nWe’re heading back to a small\, but scenic lake under the light of the Flower moon. Brush Creek Reservoir is located about 1:15 southeast of Indy and 30 minutes south of Greensburg. \nHere is the map link: https://goo.gl/maps/gtxYb3NHkdw\nWe will meet at the Boat Ramp at 6:00pm and plan to be on the water by 6:30pm. From there we will paddle around the lake for 3+ hours. We’ve always seen several eagles here in the past. It’s a nice lake with very little boat traffic. The military uses some of the adjacent land for training so we might see some of that. If not we may be able to check out the training village. Sunset is at 8:55pm and moonrise is nearly the same time. That means we should have good light the entire time we’re on the water if there aren’t any clouds. \nCarpool/Caravan Info: For those who want to carpool or caravan we will meet at Focus Therapeutic Massage\, 8711 Southeastern Ave. Be ready to depart @ 3:15pm. We will stop for a quick bite on the way down. \nRENTALS: For Kayak rental reservations with Freedom Kayak Adventures\, call[masked]. Prices to rent for this trip are $50 for singles\, $60 for tandems. \nSuggested items to bring: Wide brimmed hat\, sun block\, hand sanitizer\, sunglasses\, large sponge\, bilge pump or container to bail out water\, water\, snacks\, towel\, change of clothes\, water shoes\, paddling gloves\, rain gear\, bug spray\, safety whistle\, camera\, flashlight/headlamp\, a sense of adventure\, and a good dose of humor. For clothing try to use something other than cotton\, especially if the weather is cool. Polypropylene or polyester are good choices since neither holds water and they wick moisture away from you. \nEvent hosts reserve the right to cancel due to inclement weather. Any cancellation or adjustment to the schedule will be posted in this event’s message thread. \nSince this will be a nighttime event and it’s easy to get disoriented on the dark everyone will be required to wear a PFD (personal flotation device.) \nPlease answer ALL of the questions when you RSVP. \nFor more information call or text Paul Hilton at[masked]. \n————————————————————— \nWAIVER AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY FOR KAYAKING\, CANOEING AND ALL OTHER ACTIVITIES\nBy RSVPing to\, and attending this event you acknowledge you have read and agree to IYAK’s Waiver of Liability: https://www.meetup.com/IYAK-Indiana-Kayakers/pages/25179426/Liability_Waiver/

SUMMARY:HOAG -- (Short Notice) Day Hike at Cataract Falls and McCormick's Creek
DESCRIPTION:This is a joint trip with the Indy On Fire Group. \nJoin us on a hike at Cataract falls. (http://www.onsitear.com/CataractFalls/) We’ll start at the upper falls\, cross the covered bridge\, hike out onto the falls\, and then hike down below the falls. This is one of the few places where you can actually hike underneath a waterfall and look out from behind the falls! We’ll hike back to the cars and drive to the Lower falls. We’ll hike around on the lower falls for a little bit and then head to McCormick’s Creek (http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2978.htm). \nMcCormick’s Creek is one of my favorite places to hike in this state. We’ll start by doing trail 3 which actually follows the creek. Wear shoes that can get wet. We’ll also check out the waterfall from above and below. If everyone is up for it\, there are plenty of other trails to check out. I would consider trails at both places to be moderate to rugged in rating. This will be a few miles of hiking. \nI am a fan of punctuality. Please be respectful of everyone’s time and arrive on time if you are going to meet us. \nCarpool from the WalMart Super Center (4650 S Emerson Ave\, Indianapolis) leaves promptly at 9:00AM. We will meet in the spaces by the retention pond. A picture will be in the comments below. If you are riding in someone else’s car\, please chip in $5-10 for gas. \nThe trip to Cataract Falls takes 1 hour from WalMart in normal traffic. We will meet in the Upper Falls parking lot. The first hike begins at 10:15 AM. We’ll probably spend an hour or so hiking here. \nThe trip from Cataract Falls to McCormick’s Creek takes 24 minutes. \nIndiana DNR charges a $7 entry fee at Cataract Falls and McCormick’s Creek unless you have an annual pass. I have one\, but I would ask that other people also bring theirs so we can all get in for ‘free’. If no one in the car has a pass\, please split the entry fee among all occupants. \nWhat to bring?Hat\, sunscreen\, bug spray\, shoes that can get wet\, and a dry pair of shoes if desired.Water (2-3 liters is probably a good idea)\, snacks for the trail\, and a bag lunch.Cash if you are a carpool rider or sharing the entry fee.A good attitude and flexibility! \nCataract Falls: 2605 N Cataract Rd\, Spencer\, IN 47460 (http://www.onsitear.com/CataractFalls/)McCormick’s Creek: 250 McCormick’s Crk Park Rd\, Spencer IN\, 47460 (http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2978.htm)

SUMMARY:RR -- Free Rifle 125 (Basic Rifle) – Two Day (Richmond\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:This will be a special event sponsored by A&A Optics; attend both days of the event and A&A Optics will reimburse your ticket cost making the event FREE! \nRifle 125 (Basic Rifle) Overview\nPrerequisites: None \nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 200 rounds/day. \nRifle Requirements: You will need a safe rifle chambered in your preferred caliber (loaner rifles are generally available; if you need a loaner rifle\, please indicate such when filling out your ticket information). Magazine-fed semi-automatic rifles generally work best for our classes\, but any other type of rifle (tube-fed semi-automatic\, lever-action\, bolt-action\, etc.) can be used as well. Bring whatever rifle you have and we will work with you. \nSome events will have caliber limitations due to restrictions imposed upon us by the range hosting the event. \nRequired Equipment: You should plan to bring the following equipment to the event: \n\nat least two magazines for your rifle\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nIt is helpful that all ammunition be of the same type (i.e. same weight\, manufacturer\, etc) for this event. Our volunteers have identified several accessories that may be helpful at this type of event. Shooting will primarily be at 25 yards. At some facilities\, it may be possible to move out to longer distances\, but a rimfire rifle should be just fine for all activities. \nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\nsling for your rifle (a US GI sling is preferred; loaner slings are typically available at the event)\nshooting mat\, carpet remnant or similar\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nOverview: This is our signature offering\, based on traditional American riflecraft that teaches “Hits Count!” It is appropriate for a wide breadth of student skill levels. This course lays a sound foundation for students to shoot groups under time pressure from a variety of practical field positions. Rifle 125 includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn: \n\nRules for safe gun handling & range rules\nRifle parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nNatural Point of Aim\nShooting from the prone\, standing and sitting/kneeling positions to include use of the sling\nIntroduction to Sight Adjustments and basic calculation of minutes of angle\n25 Yard “Morgan’s 13” Classifier\n25 Yard Rifle Qualifier\nTwo Day Only: Intermediate calculation of minutes of angle for precise sight adjustments at all ranges\nTwo Day Only: Introduction to Field Shooting\, to include basic ballistics and live firing to longer distances (if the range facility permits)\nTwo Day Only: As time allows\, there may be additional opportunities to engage in challenging competitions to include the Rifle Qualifier\, Classic Carbine Qualification\, Battle Rattle\, and/or Field Shoot\n\nThe Midnight Ride of Paul Revere\nHear the true story of Paul Revere’s famous ride and learn about the events that immediately precipitated the Revolutionary War. Paul Revere did not ride alone – many individuals played crucial roles in the events of April 19th\, 1775. \nThis history presentation begins with alarm riders warning “the Regulars are out!” You’ll hear about the dramatic stand on Lexington Green and the “shots heard ’round the world” at Concord’s North Bridge. The tale concludes with harrowing life-or-death choices made along the 17 mile “battle road.” \nThis exciting tale will be woven throughout the day’s marksmanship events. \nLunch\nAlan would like everyone to know that his Boy Scout troop will be cooking hot dogs and burgers at the event for a nominal additional cost (exact details on what will be available will be provided closer to the event). Get a hot lunch and help out the Boy Scouts! \nEvent Sponsor\n\n\n \n\n\nA&A Optics is graciously sponsoring this event and will reimburse each participant for their ticket purchase provided they attend both days of the event.

SUMMARY:HHC -- training hike HHC "Run w/the Foxes!" 5k-8m-10m-13.1m run/volunteer/sweep+de-flag
DESCRIPTION:https://www.hoosierhikerscouncil.org/run-with-the-foxes/\n[link has directions at bottom] \nRunners/hikers — well\, you’re just doing it *because*\, right? Sure. We know. \nBut “Volunteers!!” Volunteers receive bad food\, mumbled compliments from out-of-breath runners\, lower back pain from too much standing\, possibly poison ivy\, definite exposure to tick-borne illness\, AND the coolest of tech-shirts *designed*by* MBA member Terz! How’s THAT for a bargain?? If you come out on course with me (to Sweep and De-Flag the whole business)\, you’ll have an excuse to speed-hike ≥13.1 miles in 80°F humidity!!! WOOT!!! (You can’t get much better training for summer than that\, can you?!? No!) \nWhether you’re going to run\, work an aid station\, or sweep\, ‘sign up’ here so we know to look for you and send a shout-out on course. If you’re desiring to volunteer\, please indicate that too — we’ll need to cap that [at 6?] so we don’t overwhelm HHC with good intentions. \nFWIW\, last year’s run was also in 80°F weather and I finished sweep/de-flag duties gloriously covered in salt — it set me up for a *fine* and fit summer of training. I’m expecting the same on Saturday. \nAny questions: sing out!

SUMMARY:IYAK -- Deer Creek - Camden to Delphi
DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Moderate. Can be some strainers and other hazards on the creek. If the water is flowing swiftly good boat handling skills may be required so this is not recommended for anybody with zero experience. On our first trip down this creek nearly half of the paddlers ended up in the water at one time or another. \nHopefully the air will be warm and the water running. What a great combination for a fun paddle down Deer Creek. Located about 20 miles northeast of Lafayette\, this is a very scenic and interesting stream. The creek has plenty of curves and ripples to make it a bit more challenging than some\, with some boulders and trees thrown in to make it even more interesting.\nSince it is a stream we will have to arrange to have vehicles at the takeout point to take us back to the starting point. Try to get there on early so we can unload our boats & gear and then shuttle as many vehicles to the take out as possible. We should be able to be on the water by noon\, hopefully sooner. Bring some food and we’ll have lunch along the river. This trip is about 11-12 miles long and should last 4-5 hours. We will put-in at the SR 75 bridge just south of Camden and take-out at the city park in Delphi. The Googlemaps url for the route to the put-in site is: http://goo.gl/maps/QS3fY \nPost-paddling activities: For anybody interested we will stop at a restaurant for dinner on the way back. \nSuggested items to bring: Wide brimmed hat\, sun block\, hand sanitizer\, sunglasses\, large sponge\, bilge pump or container to bail out water\, water\, snacks\, weather radio\, towel\, change of clothes\, water shoes\, paddling gloves\, rain gear\, bug spray\, safety whistle\, drybags\, Ziplock bags\, camera\, binoculars\, rope\, headlamp or flashlight\, a sense of adventure\, and a good dose of humor.\nFor clothing try to use something other than cotton\, especially if the weather is cool. Polypropylene or polyester are good choices since neither holds water and they wick moisture away from you. \n*Remember\, the new IYAK policy is all participants MUST wear a PFD while on the water. \nIf anybody needs to rent a kayak contact Freedom Kayak Adventures at[masked]. Cost for rentals will be $55 for single seat kayaks and $65 for a tandem. \nCarpool/Caravan Site: Anybody wanting to meet on the southeast side of Indy meet at Focus Therapeutic Massage\, 8711 Southeastern Avenue\, 46239. We will be leaving there around 8:30am. If anybody else wants to set up another carpool site please post a comment below. \nTrip Leader: Paul Hilton (317)[masked]. \nThis trip may be changed or cancelled due to weather or water conditions. \nWhen you RSVP please answer ALL of the questions. \n***********************************************************************\nWAIVER AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY FOR KAYAKING\, CANOEING AND ALL OTHER ACTIVITIES\nBy RSVPing to\, and attending this event you acknowledge you have read and agree to IYAK’s Waiver of Liability: https://www.meetup.com/IYAK-Indiana-Kayakers/pages/25179426/Liability_Waiver/

SUMMARY:IYAK -- Big Walnut Creek
DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Moderate. This is a fairly winding stream with riffles\, boulders\, and often time strainers and complete blockages. This trip is not recommended for newbies. Good boat handling skills are required and you may need to be able to crawl over or around log jams. The water may be moving fast so there will be little room for error. \nHopefully the air will be warm and the water should be running. What a great combination for a fun paddle down Big Walnut Creek. Located about 10 miles northwest of Danville\, this is a very scenic and interesting stream. It has lots of limestone cliffs along its path and we will paddle under a couple of covered bridges. The creek has plenty of curves and ripples to make it a bit more challenging than some\, with some boulders and trees thrown in to make it even more interesting. \nSince it is a stream we will have to arrange to have vehicles at the takeout point to take us back to the starting point. Some of us will get there early so we can drop off some vehicles at the take-out site. Bring some food and we’ll have lunch along the river. This trip is about 12 miles long and should last around 5 hours. We will put-in at the McCloud Nature Park and take-out at the US 36 bridge PAS. (Upstream river right) \nThis stream needs a good rain prior to paddling on it so we may have to go to an alternate location if the water levels are too low or too high. Please give your cell phone numbers when you RSVP and watch your emails. SUMMARY:RR -- Rifle 125 (Basic Rifle) – Two Day (Bedford\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:Rifle 125 (Basic Rifle) Overview\nPrerequisites: None \nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 200 rounds/day. Some events will have caliber limitations due to restrictions imposed upon us by the range hosting the event. This history presentation begins with alarm riders warning “the Regulars are out!” You’ll hear about the dramatic stand on Lexington Green and the “shots heard ’round the world” at Concord’s North Bridge. The tale concludes with harrowing life-or-death choices made along the 17 mile “battle road.” This exciting tale will be woven throughout the day’s marksmanship events. \nAdditional Event Information\nTicket price includes all range fees\, delicious lunch and refreshments on both days. \nAdditional Range Information\nThe Bedford Contingent is South Central Indiana’s Premier Shooting Facility. Located just north of Bedford\, Indiana\, “The BC” features a 300-yd rifle range\, covered meeting house\, and is available year-round for public and private events. Primitive camping available (please reserve ahead of time\, donation appreciated)\, porta-potties and potable water on-site. \nWin a Copy of “Paul Revere’s Ride”\nOur history presentations are based on “Paul Revere’s Ride” by David Hackett Fischer\, a thoroughly researched recounting of the events leading up to the historic skirmishes between Patriots and Red Coats at Concord and Lexington on April 19\, 1775. \n\n“The true story of Paul Revere’s ride is very different from the popular myth of the lone rider of the Revolution…This is a tale of contingency\, with great events hanging in the narrow balance. It is the story of free people\, making hard choices. Most of all\, it is about America’s half-remembered heritage of collective action in the cause of freedom. When Paul Revere and his many friends alarmed the Middlesex countryside\, they were carrying that message for us.” \n\nWe will be giving away a softcover copy of “Paul Revere’s Ride” to one lucky participant at this event.

I have a couple of ideas as well. I’ll also be looking to setup a meetup at a local brewery in the Indy area to discuss the trip and finalize the plan. More to come! \nRSVP’s will be available until 4/26. I can haul 3 additional people & packs from Indy. \nHit that RSVP button and join us! Details to follow… \nCheers!\nGarrett

SUMMARY:IYAK -- Monroe Lake Moonlight Paddle
DESCRIPTION:Another full moon\, another moonlight paddle. This time we’re heading to Monroe Lake at the Crooked Creek Launch Ramp for the “Pink” moon. We will be paddling in the no-wake zone so we won’t have to be concerned about high speed boat traffic. \nWe will meet at 5:00pm and try to be on the water by 5:30-5:45pm. The sun sets around 8:27pm so we will have three hours of daylight to paddle. Pack a meal and we will stop along the shore for dinner. \nSpecial Safety Considerations: Be sure to have a headlamp or flashlight. The law requires you have to have a white light. A glow stick is nice to have attached to your PFD to make you visible in the darkness. Since it is easy to become disoriented in the darkness everybody is required to wear their PFDs while on the water. For additional safety\, please pick a paddling buddy and stay together. \nHere is the map link to the launch site: https://goo.gl/maps/KGueJre97K52 \nTrip Difficulty: Easy \nCarpool/Caravan Site: We will meet at Focus Therapeutic Massage\, 8711 Southeastern Avenue\, Indianapolis\, 46239 at 2:45pm and will leave at 3:00pm. Rentals: For Kayak reservations with Freedom Kayak Adventures\, call[masked]. Single seat kayaks are $50 and tandem boats are $60 for this event. The price includes boat\, PFD\, paddle and delivery to the launch site. \n* Due to paddling at night\, you MUST wear your PFD and you MUST have some form of light on you or your boat for this trip \n* This event is on IN-DNR property\, so regulations require your boat to have a 2018 Non-Motorized Boat Permit decal. They are available at most state parks or you can purchase one online or at the downtown Indy office for $5. \nEvent hosts reserve the right to cancel due to inclement weather. Any cancellation or adjustment to the schedule will be posted in this event’s message thread. \nWhen you RSVP please answer ALL of the questions. Your answers can not be seen by the public. SUMMARY:HOAG -- Shawnee Nat'l Forest Bi-Annual Snake Road Closure and Hike
DESCRIPTION:UPDATED 4/1/2019 – This area is on Central Time. The time posted above is EST. We are meeting at the parking area at 12:00pm EST / 11:00am CST. \nPlease note that if the weather is not favorable\, I may change the date or postpone with little notice. So\, be sure to check this update periodically especially 1-2 days in advance. \nDo not rely on having a cell or GPS signal in this area. Those driving should take printed maps and directions.\n********************************************************************************* \n“These woods are alive with reptiles\, and during the\nmigration–well\, it’s nothing short of phenomenal.”\nScott Ballard\, Natural Heritage Biologist\,\nIllinois Department of Natural Resources\nhttp://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprd3833915.pdf \nTwice a year\, March 15 – May 15 and Sept. 1 – Oct. 30\, the U.S. Forest Service and the Illinois DNR closes 2-1/2 miles of road to vehicular traffic in the Shawnee National Forest to allow 35 species of snakes and about 15 species of salamanders\, newts\, frogs\, skinks\, toads and lizards to safely migrate between their winter hibernation areas and summer swamp habitats. Turtles such as spiny soft-shells\, red-eared sliders\, snapping turtles\, and the semi-aquatic box are also seen on this road during the migration. During the road closure\, those interested in herpetology have the opportunity to see a diversity of snakes and amphibians in their natural environment. \nWe’ll start the day with a quick lunch in the parking lot (bring your own). As Snake Road starts to warm\, we’ll slowly walk about 2-1/2 miles looking for reptiles as they cross the road or sun themselves alongside. Past the end of the road\, we’ll look for cave salamanders that live in the bluff crevices. Then\, we’ll walk back to the cars for a total of 5 miles. \nAfter leaving Snake Road we’ll visit either Inspiration Point or the nearby Illinois Little Grand Canyon for a short hike. Parts of these trails will be rugged and steep but we’ll be rewarded with a sunset view of the Mississippi River Valley from the top of the bluffs.\nhttps://www.fs.usda.gov/attmain/shawnee/specialplaces \nAfter the hike we’ll stop for dinner before the long drive home. Timing is difficult to predict but you should not expect to arrive back at the carpool location before midnight. \nNo dogs. \nPostponement Date: Rain or unseasonable cold the day of or in the days prior will stall the migration. If that happens this event will be postponed 1 week. Please note that even if we go during a warm afternoon\, there is the possibility of little or no migration activity. \nCarpool: If you can\, please offer to drive and take passengers. We’ll arrange riders and drivers at the carpool location. Please be early as the carpool leaves on time.\nTA Truck Stop\n10346 S. SUMMARY:IYAK -- Driftwood River - Sugar Creek to Lowell Road
DESCRIPTION:DIFFICULTY RATING: Easy to Moderate. This river is normally not hard to paddle but but if we get much rain this week it can be a bit more challenging. Beginners should take this into consideration before RSVPing. \nWe’ll be heading to the Edinburgh area for this event. This is a nice river trip. We’ll meet at the Sugar Creek Bridge PAS on River Road located north of the bridge that crosses over Sugar Creek at 1:30 AM. (GPS coords: N[masked] W[masked]) Take E. 800 S (Camp Atterbury Rd.) about 1/2 mile east of US 31 to the bridge. We will shuttle vehicles down to the take-out at the Lowell Road PAS just northeast of Columbus. This should allow us to be on the water before 2:30 PM. This is a 11 mile trip and should take about four hours to complete. Here is the Google Maps link for the trip from Indy to the launch: https://goo.gl/maps/VhvAR4R3F8z \nSince we are getting a late start\, eat lunch before we launch. We will stop for dinner on the way home if everybody wants. \nWhat to bring: Sunscreen\, wide-brimmed hat\, sunglasses\, water\, snacks\, large sponge\, towel\, binoculars\, camera (with water proof container)\, change of clothes\, dry bag\, a sense of adventure\, camaraderie and a good dose of humor. For clothing it’s best to use synthetic fibers such as polyester or polypropylene since they don’t hold moisture as cotton does. I also recommend rain gear since that will keep the water off you and protect you from the wind. \nRENTAL BOATS: If you need to rent a kayak call Freedom Kayak Adventures LLC at (317)[masked]. It is $50 for a single seat kayak and $60 for a tandem kayak for this event. \nCarpool/caravan site: We will meet at Paul Hilton’s office\, Focus Therapeutic Massage\, located at 8711 Southeastern Avenue. SUMMARY:RR -- LADIES ONLY Pistol 100 (Basic Pistol) – One Day (Indianapolis\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:This will be a special LADIES ONLY event—thanks for joining us! \nPistol 100 (Basic Pistol) Overview\nPrerequisites: None \nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 200 rounds/day. \nPistol Requirements: You will need a safe pistol with at least five round capacity to fully participate in this course (loaner pistols are generally available; if you need a loaner pistol\, please indicate such when filling out your ticket information). Pistols should be of a modern\, drop safe design. \nOlder single action pistols manufactured before the 1980s and lacking a transfer bar safety are the most common type of pistol that lack drop safe design features\, as do some military surplus imports from Eastern bloc countries and Taurus PT-series pistols not fixed during an international safety recall in 2015. These pistols may discharge if dropped and pose a potential safety hazard to our volunteers and students\, and are not permitted. If you have concerns about the safety features of your pistol you should have it inspected by an armorer or gunsmith before class. \nRequired Equipment: You should plan to bring the following equipment to the event: \n\nat least two magazines for your pistol\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nWe will not be drawing from the holster in this class and we will run a “cold range.” You will not need a holster to participate in the class activities. \nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nOverview: This course\, based on traditional American service pistol fundamentals teaches “Hits Count!” This course lays a sound foundation for students to shoot groups under time pressure from a practical stance. Pistol 100 includes classroom and range time learning to shoot handguns. Students learn: \n\nRules for safe gun handling & range rules\nPistol parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nTwo Handed Grip & Stance: Isoceles\, benchrest\, and low ready positions (Weaver may also be taught)\nNatural Point of Aim\nShot Group Analysis\nClearing Common Stoppages\nWhittemore’s Stand Pistol Qualifier\nClassic WW2 Pistol Qualification Test (optional)\n\nThe Midnight Ride of Paul Revere\nHear the true story of Paul Revere’s famous ride and learn about the events that immediately precipitated the Revolutionary War. \nAdditional Range Information\nThe Marion County Fish & Game range fee is included in your ticket price.
