SUMMARY:HOAG -- Shawnee Nat'l Forest Bi-Annual Snake Road Closure and Hike
DESCRIPTION:UPDATED 4/1/2019 – This area is on Central Time. The time posted above is EST. We are meeting at the parking area at 12:00pm EST / 11:00am CST. \nPlease note that if the weather is not favorable\, I may change the date or postpone with little notice. So\, be sure to check this update periodically especially 1-2 days in advance. \nDo not rely on having a cell or GPS signal in this area. Those driving should take printed maps and directions.\n********************************************************************************* \n“These woods are alive with reptiles\, and during the\nmigration–well\, it’s nothing short of phenomenal.”\nScott Ballard\, Natural Heritage Biologist\,\nIllinois Department of Natural Resources\nhttp://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprd3833915.pdf \nTwice a year\, March 15 – May 15 and Sept. 1 – Oct. 30\, the U.S. Forest Service and the Illinois DNR closes 2-1/2 miles of road to vehicular traffic in the Shawnee National Forest to allow 35 species of snakes and about 15 species of salamanders\, newts\, frogs\, skinks\, toads and lizards to safely migrate between their winter hibernation areas and summer swamp habitats. Turtles such as spiny soft-shells\, red-eared sliders\, snapping turtles\, and the semi-aquatic box are also seen on this road during the migration. During the road closure\, those interested in herpetology have the opportunity to see a diversity of snakes and amphibians in their natural environment. \nWe’ll start the day with a quick lunch in the parking lot (bring your own). As Snake Road starts to warm\, we’ll slowly walk about 2-1/2 miles looking for reptiles as they cross the road or sun themselves alongside. Past the end of the road\, we’ll look for cave salamanders that live in the bluff crevices. Then\, we’ll walk back to the cars for a total of 5 miles. \nAfter leaving Snake Road we’ll visit either Inspiration Point or the nearby Illinois Little Grand Canyon for a short hike. Parts of these trails will be rugged and steep but we’ll be rewarded with a sunset view of the Mississippi River Valley from the top of the bluffs.\nhttps://www.fs.usda.gov/attmain/shawnee/specialplaces \nAfter the hike we’ll stop for dinner before the long drive home. Timing is difficult to predict but you should not expect to arrive back at the carpool location before midnight. \nNo dogs. \nPostponement Date: Rain or unseasonable cold the day of or in the days prior will stall the migration. If that happens this event will be postponed 1 week. Please note that even if we go during a warm afternoon\, there is the possibility of little or no migration activity. \nCarpool: If you can\, please offer to drive and take passengers. We’ll arrange riders and drivers at the carpool location. Please be early as the carpool leaves on time.\nTA Truck Stop\n10346 S. State Road 39\nClayton\, IN 46118\nclick for a map to the carpool location\nhttps://goo.gl/maps/Ci5fEqYWJS72\nCarpool Departure Time: 7:30am EST \nDress: Boots and thick long pants recommended. No shorts\, sweat pants\, leggings\, sandals\, etc.\nBring: Sack lunch\, binoculars\, camera\, telephoto lens\, water\, snacks\, hiking poles. \nVideos:\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_KACZ_87fw&feature=youtu.be\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2JJqfTqHmA\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hUglM0wczk \nWeb Articles:\nhttps://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/shawnee/alerts-notices/?aid=16755

SUMMARY:IYAK -- Driftwood River - Sugar Creek to Lowell Road
DESCRIPTION:DIFFICULTY RATING: Easy to Moderate. This river is normally not hard to paddle but but if we get much rain this week it can be a bit more challenging. Beginners should take this into consideration before RSVPing. \nWe’ll be heading to the Edinburgh area for this event. This is a nice river trip. We’ll meet at the Sugar Creek Bridge PAS on River Road located north of the bridge that crosses over Sugar Creek at 1:30 AM. (GPS coords: N[masked] W[masked]) Take E. 800 S (Camp Atterbury Rd.) about 1/2 mile east of US 31 to the bridge. We will shuttle vehicles down to the take-out at the Lowell Road PAS just northeast of Columbus. This should allow us to be on the water before 2:30 PM. This is a 11 mile trip and should take about four hours to complete. Here is the Google Maps link for the trip from Indy to the launch: https://goo.gl/maps/VhvAR4R3F8z \nSince we are getting a late start\, eat lunch before we launch. We will stop for dinner on the way home if everybody wants. \nWhat to bring: Sunscreen\, wide-brimmed hat\, sunglasses\, water\, snacks\, large sponge\, towel\, binoculars\, camera (with water proof container)\, change of clothes\, dry bag\, a sense of adventure\, camaraderie and a good dose of humor. For clothing it’s best to use synthetic fibers such as polyester or polypropylene since they don’t hold moisture as cotton does. I also recommend rain gear since that will keep the water off you and protect you from the wind. \nRENTAL BOATS: If you need to rent a kayak call Freedom Kayak Adventures LLC at (317)[masked]. It is $50 for a single seat kayak and $60 for a tandem kayak for this event. \nCarpool/caravan site: We will meet at Paul Hilton’s office\, Focus Therapeutic Massage\, located at 8711 Southeastern Avenue. Please be there by 12:15pm as we will leave at 12:30pm. \nFor more info call Paul at (317)[masked] \nPLEASE ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS WHEN YOU RSVP \n—————————————————————- \nWAIVER AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY FOR KAYAKING\, CANOEING AND ALL OTHER ACTIVITIES\nBy RSVPing to\, and attending this event you acknowledge you have read and agree to IYAK’s Waiver of Liability: https://www.meetup.com/IYAK-Indiana-Kayakers/pages/25179426/Liability_Waiver/

SUMMARY:RR -- LADIES ONLY Pistol 100 (Basic Pistol) – One Day (Indianapolis\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:This will be a special LADIES ONLY event—thanks for joining us! \nPistol 100 (Basic Pistol) Overview\nPrerequisites: None \nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 200 rounds/day. \nPistol Requirements: You will need a safe pistol with at least five round capacity to fully participate in this course (loaner pistols are generally available; if you need a loaner pistol\, please indicate such when filling out your ticket information). Pistols should be of a modern\, drop safe design. \nOlder single action pistols manufactured before the 1980s and lacking a transfer bar safety are the most common type of pistol that lack drop safe design features\, as do some military surplus imports from Eastern bloc countries and Taurus PT-series pistols not fixed during an international safety recall in 2015. These pistols may discharge if dropped and pose a potential safety hazard to our volunteers and students\, and are not permitted. If you have concerns about the safety features of your pistol you should have it inspected by an armorer or gunsmith before class. \nRequired Equipment: You should plan to bring the following equipment to the event: \n\nat least two magazines for your pistol\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nWe will not be drawing from the holster in this class and we will run a “cold range.” You will not need a holster to participate in the class activities. \nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nOverview: This course\, based on traditional American service pistol fundamentals teaches “Hits Count!” This course lays a sound foundation for students to shoot groups under time pressure from a practical stance. Pistol 100 includes classroom and range time learning to shoot handguns. Students learn: \n\nRules for safe gun handling & range rules\nPistol parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nTwo Handed Grip & Stance: Isoceles\, benchrest\, and low ready positions (Weaver may also be taught)\nNatural Point of Aim\nShot Group Analysis\nClearing Common Stoppages\nWhittemore’s Stand Pistol Qualifier\nClassic WW2 Pistol Qualification Test (optional)\n\nThe Midnight Ride of Paul Revere\nHear the true story of Paul Revere’s famous ride and learn about the events that immediately precipitated the Revolutionary War. Paul Revere did not ride alone – many individuals played crucial roles in the events of April 19th\, 1775. \nThis history presentation begins with alarm riders warning “the Regulars are out!” You’ll hear about the dramatic stand on Lexington Green and the “shots heard ’round the world” at Concord’s North Bridge. The tale concludes with harrowing life-or-death choices made along the 17 mile “battle road.” \nThis exciting tale will be woven throughout the day’s marksmanship events. \nAdditional Range Information\nThe Marion County Fish & Game range fee is included in your ticket price. \nWin a Copy of “Paul Revere’s Ride”\nOur history presentations are based on “Paul Revere’s Ride” by David Hackett Fischer\, a thoroughly researched recounting of the events leading up to the historic skirmishes between Patriots and Red Coats at Concord and Lexington on April 19\, 1775. \n\n“The true story of Paul Revere’s ride is very different from the popular myth of the lone rider of the Revolution…This is a tale of contingency\, with great events hanging in the narrow balance. It is the story of free people\, making hard choices. Most of all\, it is about America’s half-remembered heritage of collective action in the cause of freedom. When Paul Revere and his many friends alarmed the Middlesex countryside\, they were carrying that message for us.” \n\nWe will be giving away a softcover copy of “Paul Revere’s Ride” to one lucky participant at this event.

SUMMARY:IHMG -- Hike @ Fort Harrison
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday it should start to feel like spring again\, and we’ll be doing a local hike at this park on the northeast side of town. This will mostly be a moderate hike\, but we’ll see a few hills and likely see some muddy trails. \nThe hike itself will consist of two routes through the park. We’ll begin with a half-mile walk across the park from where we’ll begin at the Delaware Lake parking lot to the Lawrence Creek trail\, which is a 3.6-mile loop. After that trail\, anyone who’s ready to call it a day can do so. We’ll then make our way down the street to the Shoen Creek trail and hike about another 3 miles there. Then we’ll return to where we began and overall we’ll cover roughly 7.5 miles. \nAdmission is $7. \nWe’ll meet at the parking lot next to Delaware Lake. After passing by the gatehouse\, you’ll take the first right you come to and this road will take you back to the parking lot. A map of the park is located here (http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/files/ftharrison_trail.pdf). Just look for the group of us in the parking lot. There are restrooms located here as well. \nAfter the hike\, for those interested\, we’ll be grabbing some lunch at the Garrison Restaurant at 6002 Post Road (https://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/inns/ftharrison/dining.html). They have a lunch buffet with a soup and salad bar. \nCar Pool Info: Our car pool will be meeting along the west side of Bishop Chatard High School\, which is on the corner of Kessler Boulevard and Crittenden Avenue\, at 5885 Crittenden Avenue. The parking along the street is free on Saturdays. We’ll meet on the sidewalk at the school entrance front near the corner and be leaving at 9:30am. \nPlease Note: \nCar pool @ 9:30am \nHike @ 10am \nTerrain: Moderate overall but with some hills\, approximately 7.5 miles \nTime: About 3 hours \nSee you on Saturday\, \nMichael

SUMMARY:IHMG -- Hike @ Turkey Run
DESCRIPTION:The rocky gorges and stream beds at this state park make for some of the best hiking trails in the state\, and I’m hoping this Sunday hike will be free of rain. We’ll cover around 7.5 miles\, lasting around 3.5 hours. Be sure to pack plenty to drink\, along with any other gear you’ll need. We’ll be seeing a combination of rocky and hilly terrain along with some steep staircases. \nPLEASE NOTE: This will be a rugged\, lengthy hike\, so if you’re not ready for something rigorous\, please consider your fitness limits and wait for another less challenging hike. This is not a hike for beginners or those who are still building endurance. Injuries can happen when someone is working beyond his or her limits\, and I’d like to keep everyone injury free. \nAdmission to the park is $7. \nWe’ll be meeting in the parking lot in front of the Nature Center at 2pm. Just look for the crowd of us. Also\, restrooms are located inside the Nature Center. SUMMARY:MBA -- Early Spring Overnight Backpacking Trip in Brown County
DESCRIPTION:What’s up everyone? It’s time to get an early spring trip on the calendar… I haven’t solidified the exact location just yet\, but below are a couple of options I’m kicking around. Looking for your feedback or recommendations. \nInstead of trying to do something really ambitious\, I’m hoping to put something together that will appeal to the group and that will get us outside together! That’s also why I’m leaning towards just 1 night vs. 2. Would love your input and if you have other ideas\, speak up! Here are the options I’m currently considering for this one: \nOption 1: Peninsula Trail in Charles C. Deam Wilderness (2 hours south of Indy)\n– Hike the Peninsula Trail and camp by the Lake Monroe. This would be about 10 miles round trip (5 in\, 5 back) with about 800 ft of elevation gain. Possibly some light cross country towards the end of the trail to find the ideal camp spot. Here’s a link for more info: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/us/indiana/peninsula-trail–3 \nOption 2: Sycamore Loop Trail in Charles C. Deam Wilderness (2 hours south of Indy)\n– There are some great campsites along the creek on the Sycamore Trail. It’s a 6.4 mile loop or it could be done as a shorter out & back\, but I’d prefer to do the loop. There’s only about 500 ft of elevation gain on this hike. Here’s a link for more info: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/us/indiana/sycamore-loop-trail \nThe plan would be for us to either meet in Indy at around 8 AM or at the trailhead at around 10 AM on Saturday\, 3/23. We’d hike in\, setup camp\, explore the area a little\, get to know each other\, make some awesome camp gourmet\, sit by the fire\, tell camp/backpacking stories\, then hike back out in the morning. \nObviously we have no idea what the weather will be like this far in advance… It could be warm & sunny or it could be a winter trip… Time will tell… Hopefully it isn’t cold and rainy… Anything else is fair game. :) \nHit me up with any questions\, comments\, suggestions\, etc… Also\, spread the word if you have other friends that you think would want to join the group on future backpacking trips & hikes. Thanks everyone! \nGarrett

SUMMARY:IYAK -- St. Paddy's Day Paddle: White River - Noblesville to Hazel Dell Landing
DESCRIPTION:Trip Difficulty: Easy to moderate. This will be suitable for beginners and up. \nThe trip will be 12 miles long and will probably last about 3-4 hours. We will put in at the Forest Park access point which is located at 399 State Road 19 in Noblesville. The Google Maps link for the drive to the put-in point from Indianapolis is: https://goo.gl/maps/jwSGRiWVAYN2. We will take out at the Hazel Dell Landing access point. We will need to shuttle our vehicles. The shuttle procedure will be determined when we see how many people will be attending this event. If we leave the boats at the put-in point at Noon we should be able to drop off the vehicles at the take-out point and be back and on the water around 1:00pm. \nBe sure to bring a lunch. We will stop along the river to eat. \nDon’t forget to wear your green. Just save the green beer for AFTER the paddle. \nSuggested items to bring: Kayak\, paddle\, PFD\, wide brimmed hat\, sun block\, hand sanitizer\, sunglasses\, large sponge\, bilge pump or container to bail out water\, water\, snacks\, weather radio\, towel\, water shoes\, paddling gloves\, rain gear\, bug spray\, safety whistle\, drybags\, Ziplock bags\, camera\, binoculars\, rope\, headlamp or flashlight\, a sense of adventure\, and a good dose of humor. Please be extra cautious in what you wear. Being a river trip once we launch we cant go back. Please pack a spare set of warm clothes to bring with you (just in case). \nFor clothing try to use something other than cotton\, especially since the water will be cold. Polypropylene or polyester are good choices since neither holds water and they wick moisture away from you. Drysuits or wetsuits are highly recommended. \nEvent hosts reserve the right to cancel due to inclement weather. Any cancellation or adjustment to the schedule will be posted in this event’s message thread. \nFor more information call the Trip Leader\, Laurie Shoemaker\, at (463)[masked]. \nPlease answer ALL of the questions when you RSVP.\n—————————————————————- \nWAIVER AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY FOR KAYAKING\, CANOEING AND ALL OTHER ACTIVITIES\nBy RSVPing to\, and attending this event you acknowledge you have read and agree to IYAK’s Waiver of Liability: https://www.meetup.com/IYAK-Indiana-Kayakers/pages/25179426/Liability_Waiver/

SUMMARY:RR -- Pistol 145 (Intro to Defensive Pistol) – One Day (Terre Haute\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:Pistol 145 Overview\nPrerequisites: Suggested—Revere’s Riders Pistol 100 or similar. \nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 500 rounds/day. \nPistol Requirements: You will need a safe pistol (either semi-auto or revolver is fine) with at least five round capacity to fully participate in this course. \nRequired Equipment: You should plan to bring the following equipment to the event: \n\nat least two magazines for your pistol or speed loaders for your revolver\nstrong side holster that does not collapse when your pistol is drawn (no appendix\, ankle or small-of-back holsters)\nmagazine holster\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nOverview: Pistol 145 begins with an overview of the range rules\, safety procedures and quick reminder of the fundamentals from basic pistol. From there\, the course focuses on the mechanics of defensive pistol shooting.  Lecture topics include: “Why do we do this?”\, the physiological and psychological aspects of dynamic critical incidents for both the “good guy” and the “bad guy”\, firearms and ancillary equipment for defensive use among other topics.  Range exercises build on each successive evolution ending the day with a simple drill that rehearses the physical and mental issues dealt with during the class. \nAdditional Event Information\nMinors (under 18 years old) must be mature enough to follow the instruction and perform the drills as well as have a parent or legal guardian present during the event. \nAll questions regarding this event should be directed to Jake Woodcock (click the link for Jake Woodcock below for contact information).

SUMMARY:RR -- Camp Atterbury Pistol “Pop-Up” Target (Edinburgh\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:Camp Atterbury Pistol “Pop-Up” Target Overview\nPrerequisites: Suggested—Pistol 100 (Basic Pistol) or equivalent previous experience. If you plan to draw from the holster during the pistol portion of this event\, you should have prior training in how to do so safely. This is not an introductory event and involves quickly engaging “pop-up” targets. No formal instruction will be provided. \nPistol and Ammunition Required: A drop-safe pistol (centerfire is recommended but rimfire should be fine as well) in any of the following calibers: .22LR\, 9x19mm\, .38/.357 Magnum\, .40 S&W and .45 ACP ONLY. The pistol range we will be using is restricted to these calibers; if you bring a pistol chambered in any other caliber\, be prepared to be a spectator. \nYou should bring\, at a minimum\, 500 rounds of ammunition (more is always better). Incendiary ammunition is prohibited; otherwise\, there are no other ammunition restrictions. \nRequired Equipment: You will be required to have the following equipment to participate in this event: \n\ndrop-safe pistol chambered in .22LR\, 9x19mm\, .38/.357 Magnum\, .40 S&W or .45 ACP\nminimum of 500 rounds of ammunition in your pistol’s caliber (more is always better)\nminimum of 4 pistol magazines (you guessed it\, more is better!)\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nlunch (leaving base for lunch is not feasible)\nsnacks\n\nOptional Equipment: The following optional equipment may be helpful to you during this event but is not required: \n\nholster\, mag carriers and gun belt for your pistol; note that your holster and belt must satisfy the following requirements:\n\neither IWB or OWB (no appendix\, small-of-the-back\, shoulder\, etc. holsters will be allowed)\nholster must position your pistol between the 3 and 5 o’clock position on your waist\nholster must correctly fit your pistol\nholster must completely cover the trigger guard of your pistol\nholster must not collapse when pistol is withdrawn\nyour belt must adequately support the weight of your pistol (this generally excludes nearly all belts not expressly designed for concealed carry use)\nevent staff reserve the right to deny use of any holster deemed a safety risk\n\n\nmagazine loader (Maglula UPLULA or similar)\nfolding chair\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\na hat with brim to protect from flying brass and the sun\nif you wish to collect your own brass\, bring whatever containers/equipment you desire for that purpose. All brass not collected by event participants will be collected by us and disposed of appropriately\n\nProhibited Equipment: The following equipment WILL NOT BE ALLOWED at this event: \n\nany pistol chambered for a caliber other than .22LR\, 9x19mm\, .38/.357 Magnum\, .40 S&W or .45 ACP\nholster not meeting the above requirements\n\nEvent Details\nCamp Atterbury is an active military installation\, as such we may have our scheduled access removed as late as the day before the event. As the “pop-up” target pistol and rifle ranges are actively used to qualify military personnel on their sidearms and rifles\, events utilizing those ranges are most likely to have schedule changes. \nPop-Up Pistol Range \nThe pop-up pistol range is designed specifically to accommodate US Army pistol qualification. Consequently\, the pop-up pistol range extends only to 30 yards; it’s targets are computer controlled and scored. Drawing from the holster will be allowed at this event for those that have the proper holster and can demonstrate a safe draw and re-holster of their pistol. \nThose who do not wish to draw from the holster may begin each pistol course of fire from the low or high ready positions. \n \nNo Formal Instruction \nWhile there will be no formal instruction at this event\, experienced firearms instructors will be present and can provide limited instruction as needed. However\, this is not a training event and participants should not expect to receive extensive instruction. Contact the Event Director prior to registering with any questions. \nProfiles of Patriots\nWe will take brief breaks throughout the day to honor George Washington and the men who embraced his leadership while battling for their (and our) Freedom. \nAdditional Event Information\nPre-registration is Required\nAll participants must purchase tickets by the DEADLINE of 5:00 PM on March 2\, 2019.  Absolutely no registrations will be allowed after this deadline. The unique venue for this event requires that we share your name and other personal information you submit to Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center (CAJMTC)\, Military Police and the Range Control office. Your information will not be used in any manner other than to allow your admittance to the installation and to contact you regarding this event. Pre-registration is required so that we can forward your information to CAJMTC in time for the event. You are also responsible for reading the below additional range information specific to Camp Atterbury. Please keep in mind that we are using a military facility and military rules and discipline are in force. \nTicket price includes all range fees. \nRefund Policy\nEvent will be held RAIN or SHINE!\nRefunds will only be issued for this event due to cancellation of the event by military authorities. Absolutely no refunds will be given for any other reason. \nAdditional Range Information\nArrival Time \nYou MUST Arrive On Time\nPlan to arrive NO LATER than 7:45AM. Anyone arriving later than this will not be allowed to participate in the event and your event fees will not be refunded. This is due to the need to meet at Range Control and proceed to the range as a group. We will not wait for you; plan to be early. \nBase Firearms Policy \nCAJMTC firearms policy—NO LOADED FIREARMS PERMITTED ON BASE. Concealed carry is NOT ALLOWED on base; you may only load a firearm while on a designated range. Before you proceed to to the base entrance and attempt to pass through security\, make sure that all firearms in your vehicle and on your person (don’t forget your concealed carry sidearm) are unloaded\, in a secure case and separated from your ammunition. This is generally Indiana state law (see IC 35-47-2-1). If you are refused entry to the base for any reason\, your event fees will not be refunded. \nDirections to Range Control \nYou will be required to pass through the Camp Atterbury main gate to access the military side of the base. When asked\, tell gate security that you are there for the Revere’s Riders event along with any other information gate security requests. IMPORTANT—do NOT attempt to go to the range on your own. There are numerous ranges at Camp Atterbury and any number of them can be “hot” at any given time. There are ranges for pistols\, rifles\, artillery as well as strafing (witnessing an A-10 Warthog engaging in a strafing run is awe inspiring from a distance); some of the ranges involve firing over roadways (if the range is “hot”\, these should be blockaded\, but better safe than sorry). Wandering onto any of these ranges while they are “hot” could lead to a VERY bad day. Range Control is reached by continuing south on the entrance road (Eggleston Street). Range Control will be on your left just before County Road 900 South. Himsel Airfield will be on your right just beyond the intersection of Eggleston Street and CR 900 S. \nAdditional Event Information\nTicket price includes all range fees. \nOvernight Accommodations\nCivilian lodging is available on base for those who wish to stay overnight. Standard rooms with shared bathroom are $33/night and Deluxe rooms with private bath are $38/night. For reservations\, call the Camp Atterbury Lodging Office at 812-526-1128. Let them know that you are with Revere’s Riders. \nWin an Autographed Copy of “Lone Survivor”\nAt every Revere’s Riders event we tell some of the history of April 19th\, 1775 and the Battles of Lexington and Concord\, events that occurred over 240 years ago. The spirit of the heroes who gave the full measure of their “lives\, fortune and sacred honor” on April 19th\, 1775 still lives on in the modern United States military. I doubt Marcus Luttrell needs any introduction to those contemplating attending this event. For those who don’t already know his story\, Marcus was deployed to Afghanistan in 2005 with Seal Team Ten as a Hospital Corpsman Second Class. He and three other members of Seal Team Ten (Navy Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy\, operation commander\, Petty Officer Second Class Danny Dietz and Petty Officer Second Class Matthew G. Axelson) were assigned to Operation Red Wings. During the initial stages of Operation Red Wings\, the team was discovered by local Afghan goat herders. After determining the goat herders were most likely civilians and not combatants\, the team released them according to the ROE (“rules of engagement”). The goat herders would inform the Taliban of the team’s position and all but Luttrell would become casualties in the ensuring battle.

SUMMARY:RR--Rifle 125 (Basic Rifle) – Two Day (Dec 2-3\, 2017\, Nashville\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:Rifle 125 (Basic Rifle) Overview\nPrerequisites: None \nEquipment: Bring 150 to 200 rounds of ammunition per day and a safe rifle.  It is helpful that all ammunition be of the same type (i.e. same weight\, manufacturer\, etc) for this event.  Our volunteers have identified several accessories that may be helpful at this type of event.   Shooting will primarily be at 25 yards.  At some facilities\, it may be possible to move out to longer distances\, but a rimfire rifle should be just fine for all activities. \nOverview:  This our signature offering\, based on traditional American riflecraft that teaches “Hits Count!” It is appropriate for a wide breadth of student skill levels. This course lays a sound foundation for students to shoot groups under time pressure from a variety of practical field positions.  Rifle 125 includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn: \n\nRules for safe gun handling & range rules\nRifle parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nNatural Point of Aim\nShooting from the prone\, standing and sitting/kneeling positions to include use of the sling\nIntroduction to Sight Adjustments and basic calculation of minutes of angle\n25 Yard “Morgan’s 13” Classifier\n25 Yard Rifle Qualifier\nTwo Day Only:  Intermediate calculation of minutes of angle for precise sight adjustments at all ranges\nTwo Day Only:  Introduction to Field Shooting\, to include basic ballistics and live firing to longer distances (if the range facility permits)\nTwo Day Only:  As time allows\, there may be additional opportunities to engage in challenging competitions to include the Rifle Qualifier\, Classic Carbine Qualification\, Battle Rattle\, and/or Field Shoot\n\nThe Midnight Ride of Paul Revere\nHear the true story of Paul Revere’s famous ride and learn about the events that immediately precipitated the Revolutionary War. \nAdditional Event Information\n\nWe will have a fire going for the entire weekend so if you get cold out on the range you can take a break and warm up.\nBe sure to bring a lunch as restaurants in Columbus and Nashville are not close enough to visit without missing instruction and history presentations that are given during the lunch break.\nOn Saturday\, we will provide supplies for making S’Mores (yum!).\nIf you have one\, bring your centerfire rifle for the Known Distance (KD) segment on Sunday afternoon.\n\n
