DESCRIPTION:This will be a special event sponsored by A&A Optics; attend both days of the event and A&A Optics will reimburse your ticket cost making the event FREE! \nRifle 125 (Basic Rifle) Overview\nPrerequisites: None \nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 200 rounds/day. \nRifle Requirements: You will need a safe rifle chambered in your preferred caliber (loaner rifles are generally available; if you need a loaner rifle\, please indicate such when filling out your ticket information). Magazine-fed semi-automatic rifles generally work best for our classes\, but any other type of rifle (tube-fed semi-automatic\, lever-action\, bolt-action\, etc.) can be used as well. Bring whatever rifle you have and we will work with you. \nSome events will have caliber limitations due to restrictions imposed upon us by the range hosting the event. \nRequired Equipment: You should plan to bring the following equipment to the event: \n\nat least two magazines for your rifle\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nIt is helpful that all ammunition be of the same type (i.e. same weight\, manufacturer\, etc) for this event. Our volunteers have identified several accessories that may be helpful at this type of event. Shooting will primarily be at 25 yards. Students learn: \n\nRules for safe gun handling & range rules\nRifle parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nNatural Point of Aim\nShooting from the prone\, standing and sitting/kneeling positions to include use of the sling\nIntroduction to Sight Adjustments and basic calculation of minutes of angle\n25 Yard “Morgan’s 13” Classifier\n25 Yard Rifle Qualifier\nTwo Day Only: Intermediate calculation of minutes of angle for precise sight adjustments at all ranges\nTwo Day Only: Introduction to Field Shooting\, to include basic ballistics and live firing to longer distances (if the range facility permits)\nTwo Day Only: As time allows\, there may be additional opportunities to engage in challenging competitions to include the Rifle Qualifier\, Classic Carbine Qualification\, Battle Rattle\, and/or Field Shoot\n\nThe Midnight Ride of Paul Revere\nHear the true story of Paul Revere’s famous ride and learn about the events that immediately precipitated the Revolutionary War. Paul Revere did not ride alone – many individuals played crucial roles in the events of April 19th\, 1775. \nThis history presentation begins with alarm riders warning “the Regulars are out!” You’ll hear about the dramatic stand on Lexington Green and the “shots heard ’round the world” at Concord’s North Bridge. The tale concludes with harrowing life-or-death choices made along the 17 mile “battle road.” \nThis exciting tale will be woven throughout the day’s marksmanship events. \nLunch\nAlan would like everyone to know that his Boy Scout troop will be cooking hot dogs and burgers at the event for a nominal additional cost (exact details on what will be available will be provided closer to the event). These pistols may discharge if dropped and pose a potential safety hazard to our volunteers and students\, and are not permitted. These pistols may discharge if dropped and pose a potential safety hazard to our volunteers and students\, and are not permitted. SUMMARY:RR -- Camp Atterbury Pistol “Pop-Up” Target (Edinburgh\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:Camp Atterbury Pistol “Pop-Up” Target Overview\nPrerequisites: Suggested—Pistol 100 (Basic Pistol) or equivalent previous experience. If you plan to draw from the holster during the pistol portion of this event\, you should have prior training in how to do so safely. This is not an introductory event and involves quickly engaging “pop-up” targets. No formal instruction will be provided. \nPistol and Ammunition Required: A drop-safe pistol (centerfire is recommended but rimfire should be fine as well) in any of the following calibers: .22LR\, 9x19mm\, .38/.357 Magnum\, .40 S&W and .45 ACP ONLY. The pistol range we will be using is restricted to these calibers; if you bring a pistol chambered in any other caliber\, be prepared to be a spectator. \nOlder single action pistols manufactured before the 1980s and lacking a transfer bar safety are the most common type of pistol that lack drop safe design features\, as do some military surplus imports from Eastern bloc countries and Taurus PT-series pistols not fixed during an international safety recall in 2015. These pistols may discharge if dropped and pose a potential safety hazard to our volunteers and students\, and are not permitted. As the “pop-up” target pistol and rifle ranges are actively used to qualify military personnel on their sidearms and rifles\, events utilizing those ranges are most likely to have schedule changes. \nPop-Up Pistol Range \nThe pop-up pistol range is designed specifically to accommodate US Army pistol qualification. Consequently\, the pop-up pistol range extends only to 30 yards; it’s targets are computer controlled and scored. Drawing from the holster will be allowed at this event for those that have the proper holster and can demonstrate a safe draw and re-holster of their pistol. \nThose who do not wish to draw from the holster may begin each pistol course of fire from the low or high ready positions. \n \nNo Formal Instruction \nWhile there will be no formal instruction at this event\, experienced firearms instructors will be present and can provide limited instruction as needed. However\, this is not a training event and participants should not expect to receive extensive instruction. Before you proceed to to the base entrance and attempt to pass through security\, make sure that all firearms in your vehicle and on your person (don’t forget your concealed carry sidearm) are unloaded\, in a secure case and separated from your ammunition. This is generally Indiana state law (see IC 35-47-2-1). If you are refused entry to the base for any reason\, your event fees will not be refunded. \nDirections to Range Control \nYou will be required to pass through the Camp Atterbury main gate to access the military side of the base. When asked\, tell gate security that you are there for the Revere’s Riders event along with any other information gate security requests. IMPORTANT—do NOT attempt to go to the range on your own. There are numerous ranges at Camp Atterbury and any number of them can be “hot” at any given time. There are ranges for pistols\, rifles\, artillery as well as strafing (witnessing an A-10 Warthog engaging in a strafing run is awe inspiring from a distance); some of the ranges involve firing over roadways (if the range is “hot”\, these should be blockaded\, but better safe than sorry). Wandering onto any of these ranges while they are “hot” could lead to a VERY bad day. Range Control is reached by continuing south on the entrance road (Eggleston Street). Range Control will be on your left just before County Road 900 South. Let them know that you are with Revere’s Riders. \nWin an Autographed Copy of “Lone Survivor”\nAt every Revere’s Riders event we tell some of the history of April 19th\, 1775 and the Battles of Lexington and Concord\, events that occurred over 240 years ago. The spirit of the heroes who gave the full measure of their “lives\, fortune and sacred honor” on April 19th\, 1775 still lives on in the modern United States military. I doubt Marcus Luttrell needs any introduction to those contemplating attending this event. For those who don’t already know his story\, Marcus was deployed to Afghanistan in 2005 with Seal Team Ten as a Hospital Corpsman Second Class. He and three other members of Seal Team Ten (Navy Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy\, operation commander\, Petty Officer Second Class Danny Dietz and Petty Officer Second Class Matthew G. Axelson) were assigned to Operation Red Wings. During the initial stages of Operation Red Wings\, the team was discovered by local Afghan goat herders. After determining the goat herders were most likely civilians and not combatants\, the team released them according to the ROE (“rules of engagement”). The goat herders would inform the Taliban of the team’s position and all but Luttrell would become casualties in the ensuring battle.

You may shoot as much or as little as you want throughout the day\, but you may have the opportunity to shoot as many as 600+ rounds). Shooting will be at 25 yards. \nBring your centerfire rifle\, rimfire rifle\, carbine\, bolt-action\, automatic\, with open sights\, a scope\, a red dot or all of the above if you want. \nOverview: This is a new event offering for those that have attended our Rifle 125 and wish to continue working on their marksmanship skills. We will be running our 25 yard Rifle Qualifier throughout the day without the usual instruction and history that is common to our other events. Except for a quick rifle zeroing target in the morning\, this event will be back-to-back 25 yard Rifle Qualifiers. \nThis is your opportunity to work on earning a rifle patch or improve upon the patch you earned at a previous Rifle 125 event.
