SUMMARY:HOAG -- (Short Notice) Day Hike at Cataract Falls and McCormick's Creek
DESCRIPTION:This is a joint trip with the Indy On Fire Group. \nJoin us on a hike at Cataract falls. (http://www.onsitear.com/CataractFalls/) We’ll start at the upper falls\, cross the covered bridge\, hike out onto the falls\, and then hike down below the falls. This is one of the few places where you can actually hike underneath a waterfall and look out from behind the falls! We’ll hike back to the cars and drive to the Lower falls. We’ll hike around on the lower falls for a little bit and then head to McCormick’s Creek (http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2978.htm). \nMcCormick’s Creek is one of my favorite places to hike in this state. We’ll start by doing trail 3 which actually follows the creek. Wear shoes that can get wet. We’ll also check out the waterfall from above and below. If everyone is up for it\, there are plenty of other trails to check out. I would consider trails at both places to be moderate to rugged in rating. This will be a few miles of hiking. \nI am a fan of punctuality. Please be respectful of everyone’s time and arrive on time if you are going to meet us. \nCarpool from the WalMart Super Center (4650 S Emerson Ave\, Indianapolis) leaves promptly at 9:00AM. We will meet in the spaces by the retention pond. A picture will be in the comments below. If you are riding in someone else’s car\, please chip in $5-10 for gas. \nThe trip to Cataract Falls takes 1 hour from WalMart in normal traffic. We will meet in the Upper Falls parking lot. The first hike begins at 10:15 AM. We’ll probably spend an hour or so hiking here. \nThe trip from Cataract Falls to McCormick’s Creek takes 24 minutes. \nIndiana DNR charges a $7 entry fee at Cataract Falls and McCormick’s Creek unless you have an annual pass. I have one\, but I would ask that other people also bring theirs so we can all get in for ‘free’.
