DESCRIPTION:Due to unexpected family circumstances\, I will have to find another time to do this trip. ((( I promise we’ll get it done before we all turn 90 ))) I apologize for any inconveniences. The date is to be determined. \n****************************************\nAbout the Trail: \nThe Triple Crown of Virginia is a 32-35 mile loop (or approximately 20 Miles point-to- point) that connects three of the highest and most spectacular points in the Roanoke Valley in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains & the Appalachian trail. \nDragon Tooth Mile: 700.1 Elevation: 2841 Feet \nMcAfee Knob Mile: 712.0 Elevation: 3117 feet \nTinker Cliffs Mile: 717.1 Elevation: 2953 feet \nThe trek will start at the Dragon Tooth trail-head parking lot (2.5 + 0.8 miles) then to McAfee Knob (7.5 miles)\, then Tinker Cliffs (5.5 miles). \nThe loop option turn off the Appalachian trail at Scorched Earth Gap Mile 718.0 via the Andy Layne Trail (Yellow Blazed) to the Andy Layne trailhead where the Catawba Valley/ North mountain trail begins (15.5 miles & 2000 altitude gain) \nNorth Mountain Trail have a primitive campsite 5.3 miles from the northern end. Water sources are seasonal and unreliable. \nTrailhead meeting time\, day by day plan\, and other details will be posted at a later date. \nCAMPING: \nThere are several Shelters\, back-country camping sites\, and a hostel or two along the trail. \nCampsite Mile 701.0 Appalachian Trail North Bound (NOBO) \nFour Pines Hostel Mile 702.3 AT NOBO (Great place for the group to meet/arrive to after a long day of driving) \nJohn Spring Shelter & campsite Mile 709.3 AT NOBO \nCatawba Mountain Shelter & campsite Mile 710.3 AT NOBO \nPig Farm campsite Mile 712.6 AT NOBO \nCampbell Shelter & campsite Mile 712.7 AT NOBO \nLamberts Meadow Trail Shelter 718.7 AT NOBO \nThere is a group size limit restrictions\, so this trip will have to be capped at 10 people\, however; Please feel free to join the waiting list as some people might drop out. \n*************\nDRIVING DISTANCE:\nFrom Louisville 7 hours\nFrom Indianapolis 8 hours\nFrom Nashville 7 hours \n***********\nCarpooling can be arranged in the comments section. \n***********\nPlease note that the attached photos were taken by me in the winter time 1 year ago.
