Another full moon, another moonlight paddle. This time we’re heading to Monroe Lake at the Crooked Creek Launch Ramp for the “Pink” moon. We will be paddling in the no-wake zone so we won’t have to be concerned about high speed boat traffic.
We will meet at 5:00pm and try to be on the water by 5:30-5:45pm. The sun sets around 8:27pm so we will have three hours of daylight to paddle. Pack a meal and we will stop along the shore for dinner.
Special Safety Considerations: Be sure to have a headlamp or flashlight. The law requires you have to have a white light. A glow stick is nice to have attached to your PFD to make you visible in the darkness. Since it is easy to become disoriented in the darkness everybody is required to wear their PFDs while on the water. For additional safety, please pick a paddling buddy and stay together.

Trip Difficulty: Easy
Carpool/Caravan Site: We will meet at Focus Therapeutic Massage, 8711 Southeastern Avenue, Indianapolis, 46239 at 2:45pm and will leave at 3:00pm. Rentals: For Kayak reservations with Freedom Kayak Adventures, call[masked]. Single seat kayaks are $50 and tandem boats are $60 for this event. The price includes boat, PFD, paddle and delivery to the launch site.
Suggested items to bring: Wide brimmed hat, sun block, hand sanitizer, sunglasses, large sponge, bilge pump or container to bail out water, water, snacks, towel, change of clothes, water shoes, paddling gloves, rain gear, bug spray, safety whistle, camera, flashlight/headlamp, a sense of adventure, and a good dose of humor. For clothing try to use something other than cotton, especially if the weather is cool. Polypropylene or polyester are good choices since neither holds water and they wick moisture away from you.
* Due to paddling at night, you MUST wear your PFD and you MUST have some form of light on you or your boat for this trip
* This event is on IN-DNR property, so regulations require your boat to have a 2018 Non-Motorized Boat Permit decal. They are available at most state parks or you can purchase one online or at the downtown Indy office for $5.
