DIFFICULTY RATING: Easy to Moderate. This river is normally not hard to paddle but but if we get much rain this week it can be a bit more challenging. Beginners should take this into consideration before RSVPing.
We’ll be heading to the Edinburgh area for this event. This is a nice river trip. We’ll meet at the Sugar Creek Bridge PAS on River Road located north of the bridge that crosses over Sugar Creek at 1:30 AM. (GPS coords: N[masked] W[masked]) Take E. 800 S (Camp Atterbury Rd.) about 1/2 mile east of US 31 to the bridge. We will shuttle vehicles down to the take-out at the Lowell Road PAS just northeast of Columbus. This should allow us to be on the water before 2:30 PM. Since we are getting a late start, eat lunch before we launch. We will stop for dinner on the way home if everybody wants.
What to bring: Sunscreen, wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, water, snacks, large sponge, towel, binoculars, camera (with water proof container), change of clothes, dry bag, a sense of adventure, camaraderie and a good dose of humor. For clothing it’s best to use synthetic fibers such as polyester or polypropylene since they don’t hold moisture as cotton does. I also recommend rain gear since that will keep the water off you and protect you from the wind.
RENTAL BOATS: If you need to rent a kayak call Freedom Kayak Adventures LLC at (317)[masked]. It is $50 for a single seat kayak and $60 for a tandem kayak for this event.
Carpool/caravan site: We will meet at Paul Hilton’s office, Focus Therapeutic Massage, located at 8711 Southeastern Avenue. Please be there by 12:15pm as we will leave at 12:30pm.
